2010 FXDB street bob - going tubeless without breaking the bank?
Hello all,
As many of you fellow Dyna owners probably know, the price of mag wheels is currently through the roof, the Dyna low rider wheels are on a national back order, and the only guy selling them on eBay wants $2500 a set. Sportster mag wheels are also pretty pricey right now, and you then have to buy the conversion kit.
I would like to convert my wheels to tubeless tires. I dont mind spokes, but I really hate messing with inner tubes (both when getting new tires and when there is a puncture ). I had a chance to buy a set of 13 spoke wheels a few months ago, but for various reasons did not end up buying them.
Anyway, I am looking for suggestions for a cost-effective to make this transition to tubeless tires. Does anyone have experience with the fat-spoke tubeless tires out there? Is there another brand of mags into which I should be looking?
I've read articles and seen videos about how to modify spoke wheels to run tubeless tires. The process seems reasonable enough, but I'm not going to do it myself until I personally talk to someone who's done it and had success doing it.
Due to lack of viable options, I just bit the bullet and ordered the FXDLRS wheels - backordered until November 1, 2021, so I'll have to just be patient. - sure beats paying $2500 for a set on ebay right now, though.
Friend of mine bought a new BMW with laced wheels and tubeless tires. The spoke nipples are on the outside of the rim, outside of the tire seat so no holes in the rim for air to escape through. Ingenious.

Yeah - the Pan America has these 'modern' laced wheels too, I believe. I love the concept, but finding a set that works for my street bob (or modifying a set from another bike) is going to be even more cost prohibitive than just dropping the $800 on a set of LRS wheels.

I feel your pain. I've gone the same way with my 2015 FXDL for the same reasons. The front wheel has arrived and is fitted (I needed a new tire anyway) but I've been waiting for months for the rear wheel and am still waiting - I just hope it arrives before my rear tire wears out (it's close). I'll say this though: I really like my new HD mag front wheel; it looks fabulous and is so much easier to keep looking great!
Look up a company called no tubes. I have converted a couple bicycles tires with them. Should be able to do the same to almost anytime with similar pressures. That stuff seals pretty much anything fast.
there are numerous stories on the internet about people who have done it successfully, and unsuccessfully. There are kits to do it, and people who have done it from scratch. Here is a link to a thread by a guy who did it using materials he bought from Grainger, probably the least expensive option. https://www.triumphrat.net/threads/s...0/post-4782409

It is the number of unsuccessful individuals that have turned me away from going this route. As mentioned above, I decided to bite the bullet and order the Dyna Lowrider S wheels for ~$420 each. The rear is shipping out tomorrow, and the front will (hopefully) ship out sometime between now and November 30, 2021. It's annoying to wait that long, but I can deal with the spoke/tubes until then. Here is hoping my current tires last until the front rim arrives
