Has anyone just tried cutting the baffles out of their stock mufflers. I have an 07 S-Glide and I'm thinking about trying it. I've heard it can be done without doing anything else. I figure at the worst I'll have to buy a tuner and get the thing remapped.
I don't really need speculation. I just want to know if anyone's actually done it in the real world and how you made out.
I picked up my '06 Super Glide beginning of September, 2005.
No one had pipes (I didn't want slip ons) that accomodated the O2 sensors.
I cut the exhaust just beind the welds. After pulling out the baffles, I started the bike and twisted the throttle to blow out the packing. I rode like that, no remap, until December when V&H came out with a full exhaust.
I eventually remapped at the dealer,just to keep the warranty in effect.
As soon as it's up....PCIII goin' in!
My point is, ask ten people and you'll probably get ten different answers.
The only advise I take with a grain of salt is the dealers.
You can cut them out with a hole saw on an extention.
I know a bloke who did his Sporty, and he is happy with the results.
Does yours have the flapper valve in the pipe? or is this only export models.
I had my valve disconected by the dealer at the 1st service, got rid of the off idle flat spot.
Do a search as stated, I know someone on here had the size saw needed.
Yeah, I just removed the baffles on my '06 FXDBI about 3 weeks ago. I didn't remap and don't have the high flow A/C. Before removing the baffles altogether, I punched a hole in the plate that splits the muffler, and that gave me a nice sound, although I had some popping on deceleration. Now that I've removed the full baffles, the sound is a lot louder and loweron idle but isn't as throaty. Sounds more like a Corvette exhaust than a Harley. I used a hole saw to remove them, 1 3/4 inch. To be honest, I think the sound was better with the hole punched through. But anything is better than stock.

I've done it, but quickly went with cheap slip-ons afterwards. I drilled the centers out of the stock muffs. Made it louder, but not too loud, lost a bit of performance.
Just for the record......I whacked em out of there about a week ago. 2" hole saw about 45 minutes because after I cut the weld I had to take the rear muffler off and drive the baffle out from the front. The front one slid out pretty nice after a little tugging. Anyway fired the the thing up and it never skipped a beat. Spit all that wadding they pack the baffles in about 30' across the driveway. ("uh-uh-uh....that was cool")
Well I can tell ya that after 300 miles I like it a lot. Runs great, no engine lights. Sounds nice....more like what I expected when I bought an HD. The only thing I noticed is a little loss at the bottom end. (like turning up a hill or something) and I seem to hit60 a lot quicker from 40. Probably just because it sounds better and I kinda dig gettin into it a little more.
