Currently have an XL 1200C Sportster. My wife is taking this bike and I get to buy a new one (yea!) Drawn to the looks of the Wide Glide but have read some posts that is best fits those with long legs. I'm 5' 11" but with short legs (30" inseam) -- most of my height is from the waist up. Dealer didn't have any in stock to sit on during my last visit.
Hey Man
I have an 05 Superglide and I don't know how much wider a Wideglide is at the seat area I believe the big difference is the front end, But I have a 30" inseam and sit comfortably on my Superglide. The seat is only like 26 or 27 inches off the ground so I sit bent leg I believe they actually sit lower than the Sporty. I think you should be fine You more like sit in a Glide and sit on a Sporty If that makes any sense the way I said it. Best bet though is to try one first
Good Luck
The difference between the Wide Glide and Super Glide is that the Wide Glide has forward controls. You'll probably be ok on a WG, but there is only one way to tell - go sit on one, or better yet, take one for a test ride.
I have a 30" inseam and I ride a 2005 WG...I actually bought the WG without even sitting on any HD! I just liked the look of the WG and I am glad I got it. It fits me real well. Like others have said, try sitting on several different models unless you are like me and see a Harley you like, read up on it, and just walk in and buy it! I have done 5,000 miles on mine in 5 months and I am happy with it...I have a female friend who is also a HD owner and she looks REAL good on the WG, just wish I had pics of her on it!!!!!
I have an 05 wideglide. I have a 30" inseam and fits well. I lowered the bike 1" with the rear shocks as well, changed the seat and that brought me flat footed and knees bent a little. I changed the seat cause I didn't like the pillow seat. The pegs are at a perfect riding positon.
HD makes a series of seats they call "reach" seats that will move you about 1"-2" forward to make it easier to get your feet on the forward controls. Have the same problem with my Superglide and installing forward controls. No one makes a set of forwards that are set back a little. Accutronix makes a Kickback line of fowards, but they're only for Softy's at this point. They tell me it has to do with interference from the Dyna's front exhaust pipe.
I've looked all over the a bracket that I can mount my forward controls to and move them back a little, no one has any. I'm in the process of making my own template and having them machined for my bike. Who knows, they just may work.
I got a Bar Enterprise seat ( Harleyseats.com). The seat lowered me to the ground and a little forward. The seat is very comfortable. You can work with them and they can make it anyway you like. I'll get some pictures of the bike up this weekend..
