I'm stepping on toes here, but way back when, slugs were know to snap right at the connection..
Thought about that myself but they've been on the VTX for a few thousand miles w no problems. Since they are located between the two clamps there really shouldn't be all that much stress. Right?

RIGHT, and that was what we all thought back in the late 60s and early 70s..I must admit that I never heard of any breaking that were{ Between } the top and bottom trees, but I have seen pictures of ones that did break, but they were 6 or 8 inches long and were {below} the bottom tree..but that was enough for me, I bought one piece tubes for my bikes..I just threw that out there in case anybody had the idea to go with longer slugs, I really didn't think they still made them.
Thanks for clearing that up. I could it see it being extremely unsafe if they are located below the bottom clamp as this is where the majority of the stress in the fork islocated.
The best size over forks I used to like were 4" over.
You need to realize when you go too high the bikes balance becomes out of balance. On the newer bikes you can go from a 19" front wheel to a 21" front tire if wanted. Put a 2x4 or something under the front end of yer bike and see if the like the difference in the ground clearance.
Also realize when you extend the forks more the easier the bike can slide on you when making a turn if you go with too much over. I remember all the over size tubes and springers in the 70's.
The ground clearnace and the forks and the bike in general is why I like a Wide Glide so much.
Might want to check with B5mac he just had 4" done .

...I'am thinking about doing a 2inch or 4inch over on my bob...
Thanks Eno
Let me know if you ever do it, how much it cost youand how easy it was because, I want to add 2 or4 inches on my Bob next spring and I also want to change the tripple trees for wider WG ones.
Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has extended there fork tubes,
I remember back in old school days that was done alot without any rake.
I'am thinking about doing a 2inch or 4inch over on my bob,
has anyone done this and if so how does it effect the handling of the bike
and if themotor isnot level will this effect the oil level and lube of the motor?
Thanks Eno
Eno, I put the 06WG pipes on mine. This is a 2 1/2" rise.
Handling is fine, I've tested this for 6 months
with the pedal on the bellhousing.
lube of the motor?? I do not think there will be a problem,
these are the stock WG forks.
I had my 4" extended forks done for $160.00. I took them off the bike and took them into the shop, got them extended, then put them back on myself. If your good at wrenching you could do it all yourself and save some more. My icon shows the bike with the 4" extended forks on the bike.
