Wouldn't we all buy back some of our old handi-work?? I know I sure would..so many bikes, but so little money..the guy that bought my 71 superglide had it one week, got drunk and crashed it, total wipe out, he came out pretty much un-hurt, but he ruined a darn good bike..
That's an amazing looking bike. Do you have any other pictures of it?
no, I really don't, I was never much into taking pictures back in them days, what I do have I have no way to load on here as I have no scanner..my wife had a 750 BSa in a hard-tail frame, plus a 69 XLH and a 51 panhead with a XA springer front-end with a 21 inch wheel, no pictures of any of them. I had way more sportys then I care to remember. every bike I built I always thought I would keep for ever, but if somebody had enough money I would sell anything,, couple of pictures of it when it was new, also my 62 pan right after I installed the sporty front end, this is what turned into the green panhead I showed a picture of
Wow ,some nice photos from Bear69.
I just wonder what Harleys cost back in the60's?
I remember when I was in the armyin 1974 I bought a 69 sportster
for 700 bucks and that was a chunk of change back then ,and it was used. Does anybody know or remember what they paid for a new Harley back then?
go down to u,re local harley dealer, all them tubes for u,re model of frame are the same. look at the length of tubes and pick the ones u like . just remember if u dont buy the springs for those tubes u got to make spacers for your springs ,pvc is ok but i prefer steel pipe. u got to go about 18 over for it to bother your oil in any way specially these new ones [84and up]
I bought a new 1961 XLCH for $1335.oo with a chrome primary cover and a bates scrambler seat. thats when I was only making about $200.00 a month in the Navy.. I paid $2495 for my new1971 superglide, didn't get anything with it, but I did get them to install the straight pipes before I took it home..
Hard to believe slugs are still around! I saw a couple bikes go down with 'em. Both were Hondas - a 450 & a 750. One, I don't remember which, had 6 inch slugs that came below the lower triple tree. The other had slugs that were between the trees. The long slugs simply broke at the joint, the bike did a header, and the dude went for a slide. The one slugged between the upper & lower trees broke on one side, again at the joint. The dude went down in sort of a semi-controlled slide, if there is such a thing.
