Sort of like buying a Superglide with the goofiest Speedo set up in the world, changing the bars out,and then wondering how to make it look cool? Quote Mascman.
I had that one coming. Sorry Mascman. There is a saying about opinions. Ispoke to the dealer this afternoon. Slimsjam Sportster Custom option is the way to go. Easy, looks ok and relatively inexpensive.

Let us know how it turns out and how many parts needed to be changed. The dealer I talked to was not sure how many new parts it would take. The riser may not be necessary but it also doubles as a way to hide a lot of wires although the stock wires may not be long enough for the riser. I do agree with the speedo being goofy. I wonder why Harley has not made an effort to change it on the stock setup? I guess it is to force you to other models with the speedo on the fuel tank and spend a lot more money. I had to deal with the same thing on my Sportster and a lot of people hated that too.

In my opinion Harley is making an effort here. In 05 there were 3 dynas with bar speedo - FXD, FXDX, FXDC. The FXDX morphed into the Bob in 06 then in 07 the FXDC had the speedo moved to the tank. This leaves only the FXD with the bar speedo position. For 2008 models, HD reduced the price of the FXDC to the point that it doesn't make much sense to buy an FXD. The FXDC is not much more.
HD dropped the standard softail for 2008, and I wonder if they plan on dropping the "standard" FXD for 2009? Just speculation - but you gotta wonder?
