all I can come with is finding a title
not on a bike on the road. Restamp the vin after welding over the old one and grind flush. Neck replacement welding is too risky as certified welding inspector. Or buy a frame from a fire or something and toss it. Use the title.

I’ve heard of the Vermont trick but never really any details that concern me. Nobody knows and nobody has ever done it that’s suggested it. I can’t even find a way to get the old owners info from the vin.

700 a month for car insurance. No more. I need my glide on the road bad. Going broke.
This isn’t a place to get advice on vehicle rebirthing

You did not state if you bought it or were given it. No matter, it was a bad idea to take it. NEVER buy any vehicle without a CLEAN TITLE. Even buying a new aftermarket frame and putting it together there's still 1 major problem. You need a Certificate of Origin to get it titled as Special Construction. No original title for the engine = no new title. It all comes down to 1 thing, at 47 years of age, you should know better.

It's hard to understand your post but what I'm gathering is you want to find a junk bike with a title and use that VIN number to stamp on your current wide glide, after you grind off the current VIN? Am I understanding that correctly? And if so, how is that not felony VIN tampering?

Many states don`t show any engine numbers on title or registration.

But it sure looks like the op is just looking for ideas on how to title a motorcycle that is not legally his property.

Tampering with VIN numbers is a felony; don't do that. The title is tied to the frame (from 1970+), so you could buy a clean titled frame, actually transfer the title to you, and swap all the parts onto the new frame if you're in a state that doesn't include the engine numbers as well. You still run the risk of someone claiming the original bike stolen and the engine numbers being tied to that. You could work with the estate to get it sorted. There are companies that assist with crazy title situations for antique cars and what not; never used one personally, but they exist.

Great idea, well.......except for the part about throwing a tag on it, since you need to register the motorcycle in order to get a tag.

And to register the bike, you need the......Title.

You missed the part about buying another bike to get a tag... That tag will NOT be matched to the VIN of the HD frame or motor (if it's even got one), but it would provide a current tag that could literally be installed on any bike.
I'm not saying this is legal, but it would get the OP in a hell of a lot less trouble if he gets pulled over than VIN tampering would.

I think the OP needs to stop buying $**** from shady individuals who show up at his scrap yard.
