After swapping to Mid Controls, I cannot down shift to 1st gear while at a stop light. All other gears and shifting works as expected.
I've tried moving the shifter up/down on the spline, clutch adjustment. linkage adjustment. Nothing works.
Does this sound like a pawl adjustment is needed or something I'm missing?..
Thanks in advance.

Not saying it's related but have you tried doing a clutch adjustment?
So it goes into first after you start the bike? Whilst at a stop have you tried shifting to neutral releasing the clutch and then trying again - double declutching?
If it was working perfectly with the forwards could it just be the angle of dangle with where the gear shifter is now located?
Did you replace the lever attached to the transmission? They are different between the mid and forward controls. I want to say that the forward version is taller by an inch or more. People who have tried reusing that lever often have the problem you are having...although others claim to have no issue. Good luck

I agree! I think this is the problem. Going from mids to forwards, I didn't change that lever on mine, and I had trouble getting INTO Neutral, instead. It affects the transmission, one way or the other. Maybe OP would like to swap?
Thanks for all the responses and potential solutions. Turns out the adjustable shift linkage I purchased (after market) needed to be adjusted to its shortest possible length.
I tried to lengthen it but didn't solve. Once shortened, presto.
