Default No start-clunk

Hey everyone, I’m new to the forum and I’m hoping for some insight. I know this is rather basic but before I begin diving too deep I wanted to see if anyone has experienced this issue and if so what the solution was. Some quick info- 96 wide glide, it’s been parked in storage for about 5 years. No starting issues prior to storage but now when I hit the start button I just simply get a “clunk”. I’ve attached a video that hopefully will play. It’s apparent the bendix isn’t coming out but I’m not entirely sure what the root problem is. I’m thinking it’s something simple due to the fact it was fine prior to storage. Any info/insight is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for the post, I was thinking that but after being on the tender overnight the readout said it was charged. But I guess it could be just that simple!!

I'd check battery cable and starter power wire connections. Remove terminals, clean all. Ken

Get the battery load tested. Voltage can be okay, however, it is amperage that starts the engine and engages the starter.

Amperage degrades over time and if the battery sat for a long time or is old, it will not have the Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) to start the motorcycle.

Get the battery load tested at a parts store and report back.

Welcome to the forum.

Solenoid sounds like it's engaging but not enough battery power to spin the starter..

Be advised that new batteries dont come fully charged.
Maybe about 60%.
Put it on a CHARGER till its full.
NOT a tender!!!!

They also make electronic ones for load testing. I have one of these and it works quite well.
