Hi , my first tech question . I picked up my 2012 FXDC yesterday and I noticed that the throttle action is rather stiff . The bike has standard grips which , compared to the Builtwell Recoil grips that I had on my Sportster , feel a bit narrow and smooth . The friction screw is adjusted right off but there is some friction in the cables . That's an easy fix but I was wondering , not having ridden an EFI Harley before , can a less powerful return spring be fitted to ease the discomfort in my aging hand ?
Is the throttle grip pushed all the way tight? If its pushed onto the bars as far as itll go it will rub and cause the throttle to drag. Try loosening the bolts and slide the throttle an 1/8 inch outward.
I'll throw in my 2 cents.. The EFI TCs really don't have that bad of throttle pull. There is likely something wrong. As noted above make sure the throttle spindle is not dragging and the cables are lubed/adjusted properly. The stock grips suck. It's the first thing I change.. Go with HD nostalgia grips or even Biltwell. Both will allow a more relaxed grip on the throttle.

I squirted a little lubricant into the throttle housing and there is a huge improvement . Biltwell Recoil grips already ordered , best grips ever . I'll do a proper job of lubing the twist grip when they arrive .
Think he was referring to the inside of the twist grip. Maybe not. And yes, like I said, Harley has a very light silicon grease in post 2 for throttle grip.
And yes, they say lube the cable. But if you leave the cable liner dry, it will require a lot less maintenance. Once lubricated, it's like dumping oil in a key hole. It gums it up. That liner doesn't need lubrication.
If it's tight, yes I would lube it. And only if it was tight or lubricated in the past. Most Harley OEM cables have that liner. The optional SS braided ones I have seen don't. Lot of variables going on.
Interesting how you offered no help but once the user said what helped and advertised his grips, you offered your troll post. Bye

When I installed my Avon grips I used powered graphite on the throttle grip. I don't recall if that was Harley's or Avon's recommendation, but either way it won't attract grit.
