A 16" wheel will fit up front, the Fat bob has a 16" front wheel with the same front end. although the rake angle of the frames between the two models is different, and overall tire diameter will need to be paid attention to. most 16" front tires are shorter than your 21" front tire. so that will have a lowering effect on your front end.
As for determining front wheel width, take off the tire and measure the width of the bead to bead of the rim. but the width of the wheel you are taking off doesn't much matter when you're replacing it and will need to get a wheel to match the 16" front tire width you want to run. You will likely be going with a wider tire if you want a 16" front wheel.

Id like to do the same size wheel & tire front and back if possible.
So would a 16x3 or 16x3.5 wheel bolt on up front without modifications? Or would I need to look into proper wheel spacers to do something like this? If you would know. Cant find that answer anywhere.
I dunno, I like the 21" front wheel on my '00 WG. Bike handles great and the big wheel gives it that Mr Natural look. But to each their own.
I know, and totally understand this is going against popular opinion. Ive just got a vision in mind to have something totally like no one else.
98 Superglide with WG front end. Lowered. Same size wheels/tires on front & back. Drag bars maybe. Solo Seat conversion.
Should have probably just went with a new bike at this point, but I think my plans will turn out well if executed properly. Only have 8500 miles on the bike and runs great.
Wide Glides & Softail customs used the same hub as the same year Heritage Softails. A same year/generation FLST front wheel will bolt in & use the same wheel spacers you're using currently. Stock FXDWG fender might physically fit over a 16" wheel & tire, but it will look like hell. If/when you shop front fenders, you'll need one specifically for FXDWG/FXSTC as their fork sliders have the fender mounts in a different location than the baggers & FL Softails.
