Default Engine bolts for Street Bob

I'm thinking of replacing the stock zinc coated engine, etc bolts with chrome or stainless steel, does anyone have an opinion on one over the other? Also where to buy bolt sets, I have found both on eBay but would prefer to buy from a sponsor.

Thanks for any help,
David

It may be wise to replace them with equal or higher rated hardware. Stainless may be better, chrome may be less. Check the head of the original for marks, ie, 3 for grade 5, 5 for grade 8, etc.

You can get chrome snap caps that cover the bolt heads and look great for a lot less time and money.

I just used the chrome allenhead bolt kits from Harley and finished up the odd bolts with covers or bolts from Ace hdwe. The advantage to the Harley kit is that as a kit the prices are reasonable and each kit will have exactly the right bolts and length of bolts. I'd just pull the bolts one at a time, check length against the kit and reinstall, just snugged them up til it felt right, didn't use a torque wrench, and no problems what so ever. Did have to cut the end off an allen wrench to reinstall the rocker box bolts. The upward facing bolts will rust on the inside of the allenhead, dab them with clear fingernsil polish after install or do what I did and buy a ton of those little caps from Ace hdwe and cover the bolt heads, they look good but at .89 each it adds up in a hurry.

Good Luck

Tom
