My wide glide bars appear to be crooked. They are not bent. They need to be adjusted. I took it to the dealer for the 1000 mile service. Asked them to readjust and they are still off.
Is all you do????? Loosen the 3/4 bolts under the risers and adjust and retighten. I tried to loosen the bolts from underneath with a socket and they were on tight as a mother?????
If this is all you do.....these bolts arent reversed threads are they????? I cant get the two bolts loose under the risers. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Just to make sure I understand: you're saying that with your bike upright and your front wheel pointing straight ahead your bars appear to be turned a little left or right? And you're proposing to loosen the riser bolts, straighten the bars then tighten the riser bolts down again?
They'll be on there pretty tight because they use red locktite on those bolts.
Before you start this project, make sure you havea service manual, a friend, a tube of red locktite and a biggish torque wrench -- you'll be going for 30 - 40 foot pounds of torque.
It's most likly in the top Cap, Lossen the 4 bolts andsnug the top ones and leave 1/8" Gap then snug the lower ones, have someone hold the bars straight inline with the TripleTree. You can watch the bars move side to side as your tightening the clamp bolts. 1/4 turn at a time. Leave the gap in the front and make sure you have the bars where you want them and Centered...Kinda hard to explane. You'll get it
The riser bolts should be tightened to 144- 180 inch pounds, as per service manual page 1-47 âRiser clamp screws 144-180 inch pounds.â Not âRiser lock nuts 30-40 ft poundsâ
Also see Instructions âJ02907 urethane bushing kit, which states â144- 180 inch pounds".

mywideglide: I guess we need some clarification. Are you talking about the bolts on the clamp at the top of the risers or the bolts at the bottom of the risers?
If it's a riser bolt issue...I would get some poly bushings and if your gonna do it do it right..The stock bushings are a cheaper rubber construction and when they are torqued down at the factory they are able to shift a wee bit...get some poly bushings they are made of the same stuff bodylifts for 4x4s are made of there is a whole lot less play(if any at all) and your bars will remain true when torqued..Hope this helps Later
It is as Trotter says. I had the same problem.
I loosened the 4 top clamp bolts, and tightened one at a time, and you can see the bars moving.
Not a big job, just need an Allen key.
Ditto on Trotter's solution (problem is indeed in the top clamps) and you might need to apply constant pressure on bars in the direction needed to straighten them when tightening the top clamp bolts (just make sure wheel is all the way over to the fork stop and risers are tightened to the triple tree). When installing the new risers my bars weren't quite straight even with the top clamp bolts loosened so needed to push on the bars and tighten top clamp simultaneously.
To Adjust the bars side to side ......Tighten The 4 Hex Head bolts that look at you while your rideing the bike... Torque the 2 - 3/4" bolts under the tripple tree to 35-40 FtLbs(Then leave them alone)use a little yellow loctite on the 4 upper Hex Hed bolts and tighten in sequence until straight.. If you have Tall Apes use the Urethane bushings, if not be ready for alot of vibration.. The stock bushings are fine for the stock bars andsuck up alot of vibration.. Just get them tight
Also if your useing new chrome bolts make sureyou use athread chaser on the new bolts first.. Chrome bolts and aluniummmm canbe trouble
