Well normally I work in the dirt out back with a bottle jack and 2 by 4.. But it's been cold so I'm working inside.

Well I consider myself an above average amateur mechanic but then 90% of the amateur mechanics consider themselves above average. Go figure .. I've probably done 10 rears and a dozen fronts on this thing. Been going back and forth trying to smooth out the vibes for a while. 2000 FXDX I've owned this bike since new. Bike has over 65000 miles on it..

Recently the motor blew up.

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/twin-...-oil-leak.html

I rebuilt it..

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/engin...7-rebuild.html

I assembled it with the old mount (I use a Sputh front stabilizer) and the bike vibrated pretty a little more than what it id. I spent some time messing with the old mounts and figured out that I'd try a new set. Tried the Kinetic structures (no sputh). With these mounts, the handling got way worse and vibs went up.

Now comparing to a 17 FXDLS.

The Motor is high compression.
Bike weight at least 25 lbs less.
Trail is 4.1 inches versus 5.1 inches.
Old style comp transmits more vibes.

Since the rebuilt, I've put maybe 1000 miles on it.. I'm rebuilding another bike and while I had the cases and crank in the shop being rebuilt, I thought I'd work a little on the vib issue. I'm about ready to try a set of new stock mounts..

That's cool man, I wasn't insinuating you didn't know what you were doing, just making broad statements as there was no backstory in this thread and I have no idea about you or your abilities. I was just offering my experience with the product in question since I had a hard time finding information before I purchased them as well.

It sounds like you know what you're doing, so unless there's something wrong like you mentioned, you might just not like the product for your application. The only information I've ever found about reducing vibration with these mounts is to follow the instructions provided (which closely resemble the instructions in the HD Service Manual IIRC). Hope you get the feel you're looking for.

You did good.. I was just trying to be funny..

I'll agree that even though both bikes are dynas, The results of the different motor mounts can be different based on a number of things, exact model, performance mods etc.

Not bashing the product but it currently ain't working for me.. Going to trying a Predator front with Kinetic rear.

If so, how many miles and what did they do that was better than stock. Stiffness and vibes should be the big ones.

Ive been using it for a while it really impressed me. The vibriation reduce almost 50% or more. I was running drag specialties mount and was uwful i did my reasearch and decide to buy the kinectic. Best decision.

Thanks for the reply. So it seems that the mount works well on newer (2006 up) stage 1 Dynas.

Hey Max, did you ever go with this mount, and if so, both front and rear? Also if so, what was your result? I need to time down the vibes in a ‘15 switchback.

Yeah, I thought I'd reported what was going on. I guess I did in my mind.. Getting old sucks.

The current condition of the bike is with an early Predator mount and stock rear. The bike is actually pretty good as far as vibes go. Slightly better than what it was as a 116, now all bore 107. As stated above I've been working to reduce vibes after doing a pretty major motor rebuild. I'd did find that when I first installed the motor I used a used front stock mound that was shot and the one on the bike when the motor blew was actually in pretty good condition. I didn't use good one but went to the Predator as it was low miles.

My first shot of trying the vibratech mounts wasn't all that favorable. I tried to follow the instructions. IIRC you can read them online.. It was vibrated real bad. Tried 0,1,2 shims. 1 was the best but still not good.

I tried the predator mount in the front coupled with the Vibratech in the rear and it was worse.

Swapped out the vibratech rear mount for a good stock one and it's where it is now. Pretty reasonable.

I'm not throwing vibratech under the bus just yet. I called them. Bad for me but I forgot the guys name I talked to.. He came up with a plan of attack and I've written it down but have not had a chance to implement it..

The suggested process.
-----
Install both mounts with 2 shims in the front.

Frame bolts tight, motor bolts loose.

Run bike upright, weight on wheels, no support of frame, me sitting on the bike. Blip throttle.

Get off bike and tighten mounts, bike weight still on wheels.

Test ride.

If not good remove one spacer.

------

I told the guy that it may be a month or 2 before I get to it. There is other work I need to do on the bike plus I'm rebuilding another and would like to get it back together. It's had issues and is going slow.. On top of that I've come down with a cold from hell.. I've had it for right on 1 month and there are days it seems to be getting better but then it simply comes back.. On top of that, our dishwasher was leaking. It turned into a fiasco. I replaced seals and cleaned, had a repairman out, $600 to fix. I just had a new one installed and now the kitchen sink hot water only dribbles out. Sink and washer share the same valve and I have to figure that out... Still have the cold..
