Default Possible to adjust suspension on FXDWG

First time poster. First off, this is a great forum, thanks to all who post here!
Now, my question. I'm a big guy (6'2" 270 lbs) and when I have my girl on the back of my FXDWG, we sometimes bottom out on the rear shocks. Is there any way to adjust the preload on the rear shocks? There's these holes around the bottom fitting that look like maybe some kind of spanner wrench would fit on it for turning it? Can't tell if that would do anything or not. Any advice is much appreciated...thanks!

Yep, spanner wrench will do it. It's a preload adjustment on the spring. Use the holes and set both sides the same.

The owner's manual will tell you what tool to use, don't forget the warnings in the manual, "....may cause death or serious injury." A call to your dealer will get that done. Some people use a strap wrench for this job but I have not. It is a bummer riding 2 up with the rear sagging. DWG is low enough as it is.

Good Luck

Do you have to buy a special tool to adjust the suspension? I will be alternating between 2 up and single riding and will want to make adjustments.

H-D shock absorber spanner part no HD-94700-52C. If you can't get the Harley one, an equivalent is available from Custom Chrome - just ask your dealer, they are not expensive. If you don't want to buy one, ask you dealer to set the shocks to the hardest setting. I didn't notice any difference in ride quality, but it definitely bottoms out less. Also, it doesn't grind away the exhaust bracket so much when you get a bit too enthusiastic on the right-handers

You can adjust it with the spanner wrench available at the dealer or J&P cycles

Adjusting the pre-load won't help much. With that load the ride is always going to be harsh. Get some good aftermarket shocks, like Progressive Suspension 418 or 440's.

Installed some Progressive HD 412's on my SuperGlide for 90% two up riding, helped out big time.
