I'm looking into buying a Street Bob, but I'm a little bit concerned about the heat problem associated with the closed loop EFI. Since this systeem seems to be applied in Dyna's from 2006 onwards, there are no Street Bobs available without it.
From this and other forums it looks like most heat problems are seen on Tourer style bikes, probably because of their fairings.
Also the switchover from TC88 to TC96 might have an effect on the generated heat.
Could you share your findings concerning heat/overheating (and possibly surging) for 06/07 Dyna's and Street Bobs in particular ?
Should I worry and not buy an S-Bob ? Should I prefer 06 / 07 (/ 08) and why ?

I have had my 07 bob since March and rode all through the summer here in Arkansas and never had any engine failure because of the heat.Ido run syntheticoil and really do not plan on getting an oil cooler.
zero problems with my 06 bob. stage 1 upgrade . stage 1 does make them run a lot cooler for sure . have no fear.post pics after you get bob please. yea,thanks.
I agree there are other topics on the heat problem, but nowhere have I seen specifics on whether it is influenced by the TC version. Only Dyna owners can judge (statistically) because it's only on the Dyna that the closed loop EFI has been running on both TC versions.
Are more people having problems with TC88 or TC96 engines ? Would there even be a difference between the generated heat for these two engines ? Somewhere I read that the TC96 has more/larger cooling fins. Is this true and if it is, why would it be.
I've been on lots of sites and topics concerning this, but I still don't fully understand under which circumstances the problem appears on the different bike styles (eg Dyna vs Tourer)
Buying a Street Bob (or any HD) is quite an investment for me and I'd rather not regret this in a couple of months.
Replacing stock parts with aftermarket just to alleviate a problem which shouldn't be there in the first place is something I'd like to avoid.
you need not change anything . per the EPA all newer bikes run lean. all bikes. jap bikes included,unless water cooled. water cooled is ok if you want that kind of bike. but the tc harley been around a lot of years and by far the newer bikes are a fine tunded machine. stage 1 only gives you engine more gas so it will not run as lean. like all machines,things can break. in that rare case the dealer will fix it. i mean think about it,would harley make a bike that is going to blow up and then harley would have to replace one million engines..no way . no way .
if you was to take a poll you would see that 99% of new harleys have no problems. please post pics when you get your scoot.
i am sure many others will chime in here and agree with what i say here. only problem i had was one flat tire from a nail. harley does not cover tires with nails. unless you buy a tire road hazard.
go rent the dyna of your choice for a day or 2. you will like the machine .
keep in mind some people poke around with a new bike and get it to the point it will not run right.
all harleys are nice bikes...most of us here in the dyna forum like the dyna..some good deals out there on left over 07's ..spend the money and get you the bike you really like , if not you will sell it in a year or 2 . my take is HARLEY makes the best bike in the world. this is why they are not cheap. they are not made of half plastic like some other brands of bikes .
07 dyna here, not any hotter than I expected from an air cooled engine, been in the mid 90's to low 100's for 2 months and the bike has not shut down or given me trouble.
Just keep in mind that people are more likely to complain than praise, I would not let all of the heat complaints be a deciding factor, go test ride and decide for yourself.
