2013 Dyna Super Glide Speedometer change
Thanks
What year is your bike? That will determine what is needed to replace your Speedo.
Generally speaking, depending on your year/model of bike;
The early Twin Cams had a Speedometer that was a self contained unit. You could interchange them. The odometer would just show its mileage, and would then add to that mileage regardless of which bike it was in. About 2004, I believe, the speedos started pairing with an ECM. From then on, it was much harder to replace a speedo.
When the speedometer became linked (paired) with the ECM, they needed a cable to synch the speedo with ECM. That was a one-time pairing with new speedo. It was then married to that ECM. I am unaware of how to add a used speedo on these bikes.
With the advent of the BCM, they had the mileage stored in the BCM and the Speedo was married to the BCM... You could add a new one with a procedure to marry the Speedo/BCM, but I am unaware of how to add a used speedo to those bikes either.
Most years models after the speedos started pairing with an ECM or BCM, you can add a new speedo with a one-time mileage adjustment, but any used speedo you hooked up would just show an error message in the odometer..
That is how I understand it.
If you give the year/model bike you are talking about, someone will be sure to speak up with specific information about that year model.
NOTE: Just noticed the year/model in the thread title...

When you start it the odometer starts counting down to zero when riding. When zero is reached the milage (or KMs) is taken over from the ECM..
hope this helps..
(worked for my FXDC 14)
maybe to see if the harness was oke ?
it had some factory settings OR settings (abs light was illuminated) that may have come from an other bike..
