Because the heads were shaved .080" I had to change the width of the new 1.800" intake from HPI..
I also replaced the rear socket cap screws on the intake flanges with a regular hex bolt..
Nice.
couple of questions. Help a newbee understand this better.
if you shave the heads, it opens up the intake width. Are you saying you had to buy a new intake that is wider?
I had intake issues and fought with various modified allen wrenches to get it off and back on. When you say rear, only the rear jug bolts were replaced with hex head? I am assuming allen head easier for front jug and hex head for rear?

thanks in advance!
When you shave the heads the intake manifold needs to be narrower. The motor is a 45° V so when the heads get closer to the base, the opening for the intake gets smaller.

That is correct @Ohio HD , narrower. I run 3/4" x 5/16 hex bolts for the rear intake flange mount instead of Allen on all my bikes..

So I managed to get the bike running tonight and even went for a little ride.. Very happy with the results and will be getting it Dyno tuned very soon.. here's a short clip..
I knew some one was going to comment on that... LOL..
When I went to the 5.3 injectors, I didn't change anything in the tune so it might be running a little rich.. Gonna do a data log today and see where it is..

Just me but I'd be changing the injector size in the map before riding. You've just added roughly 35% to your fueling by not changing it.. Hate to be washing the cylinders. You don't get long to seat the rings.
