Default Lower Belt Guard

Is this thing really needed?? It is ugly as all get out and it collects dirt and water. I am going to remove it- has anyone else done so and is it ok to come off???

If you kick up a small stone and it gets between your belt and pully.............it will tear your belt..........The lower guard is a way to avoid this

I have run without either guard for over 9k miles now... so have alot of others! it is personal opinion... no it will not afect your bikes performance... just be carefull and let your passangers know to watch for the belt if you remove them both... if you ride gravel i would not recomend it... i ride city so my belts will last a LONG time!

I too took mine off some time ago, the only time I think I might need it is to adjust the belt tension since the belt tension "guage" is built into it. I still haven't figured out how I'm going to apply exactly ten pounds of pressure to the belt straight up, but they'll have to do that when I have the tire changed anyway.

I took them off my bike and have had no problems. Yes there is a chance you could pick up a stone or other debris. If you're riding on mainly clear roads and not gravel roads or such you should be just fine. I have over 8000 miles and not one problem.

I've had the lower belt guard off since the bike was about 1/2 hour old...I've got just under 10,000 miles on it now....I didn't run one on my 05 RoadGlide either made it almost 30,000 miles before I traded that one in....I think a rock might have screwed up a pulley once or twice and now the MOCOis sayingwe have to ride with a lower guard...Hell how many of us slept in lead base painted cribs Now it's bad for kids....and don't even get me started about them taking dodge ball out of gym class....

I went 90,000 miles when I decided to change out the pulleys and rear belt, still had many miles to go yet, also checked the cam chain pads at the same time, changed them out to.. I do as the co. suggest, run my belt guard, change oil and filters as i should and I must say I have had very much success with my bike..I don't trade every 3 years, or every 30,000 miles I keep my bikes..so i take good care of them. and when I decide to sell, I have all my service records to give to the buyer so he knows I'm not selling him a bill of goods..nothing wrong with doing that way,,,,and before one ask??? yes I could do my own service work, I just don't want to, I like it that way.. with 152,000+ on my bike with no problems except normal wear and tear I think I must be doing something right..this picture was taken at the 100,000 mark.. those are the fellows that maintain my bikes for me..like i said, I could but choose not to, I'm old, gray, and tired of working..just want to get on and go.
