Default Lower Belt Guard

Has anyone ruined their Belt because they removed their Lower Guard?
Just want to know before I do this...

Put the chrome lower belt guard on. I took my guard off and I liked the look better than stock plastic. Then I put the chrome one on and like it best of all.

I suspect that the lower belt guard is designed more to keep fingers out of there than anything else. Somebody probably got hurt one time and the viewed is now there to avoid liability.

Hard to get fingers in the belt at 75 mph. Its a rock thing and I plan on doing chrome on day.

Second me with the "add the chrome cover". It probably doesn't do all that much, but a dealer gets 300 bucks to install a new belt "IF" something happens.

Took mine off 2 years ago no problems so far but some people have reported toasting a belt by picking up a stone on a previous thread. Ths risk is small but is always there and obviously increases if driving on gravel roads. If you are that worried about it leave it on.
