Good idea on sandpaper, I do have a rubber block, so I'll give that a try next. I am following the stock pattern for milling so the front head in my pic is done. Well, the left side is done, the black you see will stay.
What are you, nuts??? Pay 550 for unknown used heads. Then another what, 8 bills for the head work? To save a few hours of manual labor? You're insane for even mentioning it. Come on now.

BTW start with 320 or so and maybe a quick once over with 600 afterwards if the 320 leaves any trails.

Yeah, you're probably right. I was thinking I'd keep'em in reserve and in case I really bunged this 'job up I could install them next winter.

I've done the fins on a bunch of bikes. I usually start with a file block (Broken double cut file epoxied to a block of wood like smaller version of a fret leveling file.
Then work up to like 320/400 and call it a day.

Yeah baby! The very first Harley that I saw brand new on the show floor when I was 14, I've always wanted one. Who says blacked out bikes are a new thing?

I went with the eBay heads first, found a set for $285 with 10k. Not sure but I think they might be touring heads, have an unused sporty style mount on the front head. Then bought the matching jugs in the kit.

Wanted to try a 107, really didn’t care for the massive engine breaking in the M8 117. Although in hindsight my buds 110 FXDLS doesn’t brake like the M8 117. He’s planning a 117 build next year and I’m curious.

My stock 96” was black, really didn’t care if the 107 was solid or highlighted. Either way a black Dyna is better looking than most.

This sporty has grey heads and jugs on a blonde case. Built with some 1200 take offs, a hone and some Weisco 10.5:1’s. Was an 883, with a 4.10 drive ratio, she’s a snappy high-stepper.

I think the mismatch looks cool.

I took @3dognate 's recommendation, picked up an Ace Hardware crosscut file and cut out a small piece that I could get into tight spaces with, and the left-over bit with the handle came in real handy too. Finished off with 320 and then 400 I think it came out pretty damn nice. Not up to my OCD standards because the fin edge thickness is different, but close enough that I can live with it for a min. My shoulders and back are killing me.
