Blowing Headlight Bulbs
it's quite possible that a particular batch of bulbs have lost the seal between the glass and metal portion of the bulb allowing air inside the bulb to actually burn the filament. but whats odd is "bulbs from different sources" are/were those different sources HD shops or places like autozone? if those sources were HD shops the batch theory could hold water. i guess i am in the dark about this one. ride safe
It is a bad connection. Bad connections, cause an increase in resistance, which creates heat, and the amperage to rise until the bulb burns out. Corrosion in the socket, and/or the bulb not being seated fully in the socket is the likely culprit. The voltage to the socket is fine, so the wiring is not the culprit, this is not a short, as was stated before....a short would pop a fuse. Fingerprints on a bulb is only aproblem with quartz bulbs, but if it makes you feel better then wear a glove.[&:] If it does it again, take the bulb out, take a small screwdriver, with the power turned off, and LIGHTLY scrape the + connection in the socket, the point in the center at the back of the socket, and then the metal sleeve on the outside, which is the negative. Re-install a new bulb....if it does it again, then get a new socket, as was mentioned by a previous poster as well.
Good luck!
