Default 2005 DYNA SUPER GLIDE

Now that my FXR King build is complete (for now), I decided to pick up an 05 Dyna Super Glide that I got for a good price in my area. Has 22,000 miles, paid $2500.

Considering it’s my first one, I did want to post here and ask about anything you dyna experts would be able to share with me as far as what to look for and be aware of. Definitely going to need some new tires, change all fluids, and likely some new brake pads.

Also, how tough is it going to be on this bike to switch to mid controls, the forwards feel a bit odd on this one to me and think I’d be more comfortable with a set of mids.

My final question for now is how tall, bar wise, have you all been able to go with stock cable and wire lengths?

Going to spend the weekend wrenching on this thing, removing parts I don’t want to run (bags for example), so keep an eye out on the classifieds section.

Here are a couple pictures from pick up day

Can't tell you how high you can go with stock cables. To give you an idea, I have Flanders Super Glide bars. Needed +4" Clutch and Brake. Able to reroute throttle. Able to pull extra wiring from backbone area. Pretty comfortable now.

Damn that's a good price for what looks like a good bike! Check or maybe even convert the cam chain tensioners to the '06 up style. Even at that low mileage the stock ones may we well worn.

I restored a barn find 05 Super Glide about 5 years ago, it was one of the most rewarding things I've done, and they are great bikes. As mentioned above, I'd take a look at the cam chain tensioners.
As for the mids, I hear what you're saying about the controls. You could probably post on Marketplace to get someone to trade you straight up.

I currently ride a 95 Dyan with mid controls and highway pegs in the forward position. Its the best of both worlds IMO.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm looking at a T bar set up in the future for sure, guess I will need to figure out the cable/wire lengths when I get there. I have read about the cam tensioners being an issue on these bikes, that's definitely going near the top of my list at this point.

If you're not going big on the top end, put in a set of S&S 509 cams. Nice low end power upgrade.

I have swapped bars on a couple of Dynas in the past and on my current one. You are typically pretty safe going 6-8 inches without too much worry. Anything more and you might have to re-route some cables/wires or extend the brake line.

If you are asking about converting to mid controls, show us the current set up, especially the primary cover.

Regarding a Mid Control swap, it looks like you still have the original Shifter Shaft in place. That will make the return to Mids much easier
