been asked to do a thread on the mid conversion on my WG, first off its a budget job as no longer working due to Ill health.
I bought a pair of cheap dyna footrest mounts off ebay, then on the left mount I drilled a hole through the top and cut off the peg mounts, I had a Suzuki bolt on mount from a bandit lying around with a gear lever, bolted it to the dyna footrest mount and bolted it to the frame with some spacers so it cleared the primary case.
the front forward mount I cut the footrest part off and smoothed it off and painted, then the HD gear lever was cut down and drilled and mounted down wards, then bought 2 rose joints and some stainless 8mm rod, cut to length and tapped both ends for the rose joints, then just bolted it all together, it changes gear with ease, its a LOT cheaper than trying to find and buy 2 primary's (inner and outer) and then the shift shaft and gaskets. hope that helps ?
I love these kinds of mods. Bolt on stuff is nice but making it yourself adds a touch of custom cool you just can't buy of the shelf. Good job man.
thanks for that mate I enjoy making stuff for my bikes and modifying them to my liking, been doing it a long time now, and it keeps me sane in this mad world we all live in
Nice job, Tony!
I recently added mid pegs to my 2008 WG but decided to leave the forward footrests & controls intact.
I do like your creative solution which has me wondering if something similar, done on both sides, could provide shift and brake controls at both positions.

it did cross my mind for a milli second but i'm not into forwards, I could of had freeway pegs but its still a position im not happy with, but where they are now suits me and im happy with it
Definitely an ingenious way to make it happen. Good work on your part.
But since you brought it up, I was wondering if adding the extra shift arm into the mix causes any issues?
Does the shifting feel crisp?
Or does the extra arm and heim joints (which look to be at pretty good angles) cause it to feel a little loose or sloppy?
the shifting is great and you wouldn't know it has all that extra linkage, the only sloppy bit is in the front pivot point that i need to sort out at some point, just the normal ware you get, but when sorted it will only get better IMO. it really is that good, i was pleasantly surprised when i took it for the first road test, i expected to do some adjustments.
