2005 Dyna worth it ??
The only thing that was a problem in '05 for the Dyna lline is the valve guide seals, which caused the bike to burn through a lot of oil (quart per 1000 miles). Of course tthere are '05 models that have had problems, and there might be something I am not thinking of... but all in all, '05 was a good year for the Dyna
First off, you know the owner and "where the bike's been". The owner if this thread knows nothing about the bike he's looking at except what he can see on the outside. Second, you bought yours for almost 2k less than what he's looking at and I don't know about your friend, but not many of mine are just going to eat 2 grand just because we are friends. I suspect your friend needed to get 10k out of it and was ready to sell it ASAP. Third, does your bike have any added on accessories ($$$)? Chances are it does (since most of us do those things) and the bike he is looking at is basically stock.
Bottom line, you probably got more for considerably less money than what he is looking at and you know the bike's history, therefore, you got a good deal. In my opinion (it is what it is), he's not looking at a great deal at all - an average one at best. At worse, he's buying someone else's problems at a premium price.
With all that said - welcome to the forum! lol
I just talked to the bank (my husband) we actually paid 12k, they wanted 14k. The friendis Canadian Military and they had to sell their bikes before going back to Canada (tax reasons), that's why they were trying to unload them pretty quick. It is loaded with a lot of $$$...
Now that I read your respsonse I see yourpoint.

Bottom line, and this is just me, unless I felt in my heart this was the perfect bike for me, I'd run, not walk away from it. And, if I did feel it was perfect, I'd still take to a service dept. and have it checked out and I'd offer less for it.
I don't know about these mythical tranny issues though. I have an 07 and I know several other people that own 06's and 07's purchased at various times over the past 2 years and NONE of them has a tranny issue. I never even heard of such a thing until I came to this forum a couple months ago.
I used to sell used cars, a long time ago mind you, and we took in a Goldwing on trade because the manager wanted to buy it and he got a deal, a motorhome that the owner soon bought, and a few other odd recreational vehicles. They probably gave the guy that traded it $9000 and he was desperate for a truck or something and took the deal.
