Must be a bagger thing, it's not in the Softail manual. I even downloaded the pdf to search just to be sure I didn't miss it in the physical book, nope not there. To be fair, you'd need a handful of tools to even get to the battery, so maybe that's why?
The reason I started this post, is there are so many videos out saying if you need to jump your bike while you are out riding to connect the positive lead to the starter.
Then there are videos that say when you do it that way, (with a CAN Bus system) that you can damage the bike.
Connecting the positive jumper cable to the stud on the starter is exactly the same (electrically) as connecting to the positive battery post.

Look under trouble shooting, starting, jump starting in the 2022
I posted in here a couple of seasons ago about my 2022 Road Glide Special, I accidently left my ignition on for about 2 hours. Battery was not turning the bike over. I had my wife there in our car. I pulled my seat off, removed the module bolts(BCM, I think)and lifted the mount plate. I snuck the jumper cables in there, directly to the battery terminals, I let it sit connected to my non-running car for a few minutes, and it started right up.
I've since bought a Gooloo jump pack and found that I could have slipped the rubber boot back from the starter positive connection and just attached the positive cable there and negative to the frame or bolt somewhere. It was a bit of a pain doing it the way I did, not to mention it was 90 something degrees that day so I was sweating like a pig but I got it done.
Lesson learned, and I'll be better prepared if there's a next time.
You right. The 2017 Softail does not carry that warning. However from page 140 to 150 refers to maintaince charge couple three times if battery is down.
Looks typical of most Softail TCs that the seat needs to come off to jump it.
Can you jump it with your jump pack with seat on?
If you have the quick connector that I linked earlier, I'm sure you could route it to be accessible with the seat on and that'd make it even easier.
