Default Holly Hell, is it the fork? Kur plunk over bumps

I never paid attention to the past posts about the kur plunk sound, or the plunk unk sound.... over a few bumps these past days, at speeds 35 and above,.... and hit small or large bumps and it sounds like my fork hit max compression?
I tested the fork by pressing.... and seams smooth and doesn't recoil back to fast. Checked tank, to see if it was loose?? didnt budge. No visable loss of fork oil or fluids.

The sound seams to come from the fork or the key area (streetbob) or the triangle between frame and fork.

When I tested going over speed bumps slow, it didn't cause any noise.

any imput would be a great help.

Your steering head bearing needs adjustment. Been happening on my bike since day one. Getting it adjusted soon.

Try retorquing the big *** nut that holds the triple trees to the frame. It's under the 2" or so cover...I think its a 1 and 1/2" nut if I remember correctly. They say to torque it to 90 - 110 ft. lb. I retorqued mine (which wasloose)to 110 and I haven't heard it anymore on my SB. I used to get a clunk type sound when hitting small bumps and slowing down for a stop.

Interesting.... i've just had my 16000Km service and have noticed the same thing and made mention to a riding mate about it... I wasn't sure whether it was always there but once I noticed it I hear it every bump.......

There is more to it than just tightening up the steering head nut.You need to get your front end off the ground, loosen the nut, and tighten whats under the nut first. Also loosen up the triple tree clamps to relax eveything before you tighten it.Had mine done, and works fine now!

It's called " Adjusting the fall-away". They lift the front up and tighten the fork bearings. It's like adjusting your wheel bearings on a car,so there is no play. When you hit bumps the bearings in the forks let it clunk, have it adjusted out and the ker-klunk will go away----jack

Could be one of several things...................
Tighten down hard on both front and rear fuel tank bolts, they won't feel loose, and the tank won't be loose but can still "clunk".
If the problem started righ after an oil change, check and make sure your rubber Jiffy stand bumper is still there, and positioned correctly.
When you put you kickstand up, it should make a "thud" vs a "clang or clunk".
Lastly, check the fork bearing.

Hope this helps,

DougJ
