I think we all feel your pain man. Like others, I work from home and try to fit my "honey-do's" in between conference calls and other work duties. Before and after writing this, I'm working, but I'm also disassembling the backyard pool, replacing the front of my oven in my RV, emptying the dishwasher, making the bed, cleaning out the coffee maker and making sure the dog goes out at least once before the wife gets back home. My friends give me a hard time about having enough free time to do all of that. But I've worked in enough offices long enough to know that just as much time is wasted (with respect to actual work) that it works out about the same. The only difference is, when you are stuck at a desk instead of being at home, you can't do those household things that need to get done. So, instead, you joke around with office mates, kill time at the water cooler, etc.

I have no choice but to put the family stuff first and I also miss a lot of fun rides because of it - especially the ones where my friends stay gone all day or even overnight to places. I do go on a few but not all of them like some of my friends. To try and make up for it, I do as others here, I ride my bike to go do things like errands (going to the bank, post office, etc.) and, when possible, if I have to go see a customer, I'll ride there as well.

I do find I get things done a lot quicker, for some reason, if I make a list of what needs to get done and prioritize and work my way down it. For one thing, if I don't, I'm bound to forget something.

Family and work share the #1 spot (I'm in the military, if I wasn't family would be #1 by itself). I work night shift and the wife works days. I have my daughter during the days, and my wife has her at night. My wife and I play the hi/bye game until the weekends. Then, the weekends are spent doing family stuff, chores (lawn, housework, etc). Sometimes I even have to work on the weekends. You know what? You have to find the time. Life in itself is busy. Take time to smell the roses.

My wife's pretty friggen understanding though. On the weekends she knows I will be out on the bike for at least an hour or two (unless a longer ride was previously scheduled/planned), and during the week, I try to ride my bike to work on any half way decent days we get up here. Even if it's going to get cold at night, I'll bring her in during the day, and switch vehices at my lunch/dinner time.

Somehow everything seems to fit in, in our "life schedule". If the lawn doesn't get done one week, or the laundry gets put off for a day or two, so be it. Life's too short not to enjoy the time you have here. If for some reason you can't fit a ride in some day/week/month, oh well. At least your employed, healthy, and have your family. Believe me, the day to ride will come, and man, I'm sure you'll make it a long and enjoyable one!!!
