I've got a sporster 1200 c but would like to get a new bike that is better for the open road. I hate to make the jump to a touring bike. What is the better bike for the long haul, a soft tail or a dyna? Why? I'm considering a wide glide or a fat boy. thnx

Trick question Kevin??
What'd the hens over in the splittail section tell ya??
If you want a slow generic Harley go fatso. If you don't mind correcting people when they ask if it's a 1200 then get a dyna. I love my Superglide. Whatever you do, save up for parts. Trust me you'll end up like the rest of us- trying to one up the next guy in the whose bike looks less like a stock Harley contest. Good luck man.
I will never buy a Softy, they are heavy, slow & handle like a fat chicken, Dynas got the same engines, but lighter by 5-15%, the only Softail that I'd recommend is the Night Train. Its the closest Softail to Dyna family, other wise dont waste ur time & go for the Road King.
I saved for 15 years to buy my Harley and most of that time, I drooled over a Fat Boy. When the time came, I rode one and it felt like I was steering a cruise ship in a creek. I came from the dirt bike world where I could throw my light, nimble bike around. You can't throw ANY Harley around but the Dyna is far more nimble than the Fat Boy. You get the same big twin motor wrapped in a slimmer package with less weight.
Bottom line, trest ride both models and see for yourself. As for 08 being the last year for the Wide Glide, we heard that rumor last year too. Now in my opinion, if they only made them in the Duracell paint scheme, that could be the case by virtue of consumer choise.
