Default Front Signal Relocation Fix

Stealer relocated my front turn signals with a HD kit yesterday while installing my new bars. As you can see from the pic below, there is a chanel in the bracket to run the wire through both for looks and to protect the wire a little better (IMO). Well, the dealer didn't do this and I was so busy taking in the new bars and anticipating the rainy ride home that I didn't notice this until I was half way home. Has anyone installed this kit and/or have any input on if/how I may be able to fix this myself. Dealer is over an hour away but I'll still make them correct it if it's not easy to do myself. Obviously the wires have to be disconnected or cut somewhere and put back together. I recently relocated my rear signals to accomodate detachable sideplates and don't remember if there is a way to easily pull these wires apart and put them back together without actually cutting them. I don't really want any splices exposed to view and/or the elements.

Also, this bracket is attached using the screw that holds the fork clamp together. If I pull that screw out, do I need to do anything special to hold it in place or get it back in?

I could be wrong, but I think that to do this properly you're gonna have to take the tank off so you have access to the wire harness in the frame, yank on the harness until the connectors for the turn signals are exposed (may have to go under the seat and cut a cable tie or 2) . Then you have to undo the connectors and perhaps poke the individual pins out. Then route the wires thru the channel, then put it all back together. There's a reason the dealer didn't do it!
This may be a lot easier on 2006 and up dynas, and you might not have to yank the harness. Start by pulling the plug at the front of the frame - see if the connectors are available there.

Thanks. I think the thing to do is to not bother you all here and just call the dealer back and question it and see if they are willing to fix it with no argument or at least tell me the best way to fix it. I don't mind doing a lot of things but I'm not up for pulling the tank off for one, and yanking on any wires for another. You're probably right but that's a little too risky for me.

I'm thinking another option may be to cut the wire inside the turn signal and thensplice it back inside the signal housing after I've run it through. Also something that doesn't give me warm and fuzzies but I did do it already on one of my rear turn signals because of a pre-existing condition when I didthe relocate on the rear lights.

Just did this myself.
You only have to move the tank enough to access the wiring harness.
You WILL have to dissassemble the connectors, pull and then rerun the wires. Then reassemble the connectors and plug back in. Not at all difficult, but time consuming.

You paid them to do the job. Take it back.

lmao - I did finally remove the one on the air cleaner cover - give me a break. Are the ones on the tube hard to get off? In other words, do they come to pieces when you try to get them off?

Surface stickers and reflectors come off great with a hair dryer. Heat up the sticker and then peel it off slowly. Don't use a razor blade, screwdriver, pocket knife or anything like that. They will scratch or mar you surface when on a radius. Clean it up with a little bit of Goof Off remover.

On your lights, the fix of unplugging the harness and re-routing the wires is not difficult, however, it is a bit of a hassle. Like said, you paid for the upgrade, not a half a$$ job to be done. I would be pissed if I paid for this to be done like you got. Take it back in and question them to do the job the right way...the way they should have done it.

OR...just take'em off (if it's leagal in your area). I run here in Phx, AZ w/o signals or reflectors, but I still have the parts if I ever change my mind.

Good luck!

It is legal to run with no signal lights in my state but I'm not always going to be in my state. And I would like the person at the intersection across from me to know when I'm about to make a left turn when I'm at 4-way stops and blinking red lights, etc.

As far as the down tube stickers go - they're gone. Peeled right off, in a few pieces, without needing any goo-gone or razor blades. Happy now Bulldog? lol

How much labor did they charge you do do those turn signals? I'd be kind of pissed if I got it back looking like that. Bad enough the damn stalks stick out so far to begin with, then they don't take the time to do it right.
I'd definitely make the call, but I did mine myself and yes, it is a little time consuming for a simple relocate, but worht the effort of a cleaner look.
