I just did the rear relocation kit on my '07 Super Glide Custom. There are 2 kits.I chose the one that is all chrome with the lay back plate bracket. It seems a bit complicated but the whole thing goes together perfect, like it came through as original equipment. A few things to be aware of:
You run the wires external behind the plate. I covered each pair with nylon braided covers 9not provided) for looks. You could also use heat shrink tubing.
The wires then run through a third hole already in the fender. I lined that hole with the proper size rubber grommet (not provided - Ace hardeware item) .
You then junction inside the rear tail lamp. The instructions suggest you disassemble the connectors in the tail light and junction there.I didn't want to go there. The connectors looked fragile and precise and I thought without the correct crimper, it would not work. I simply cut the wires about 2 inches behind each connector and spliced in. It worked like a charm and for me, less risk.
I did the relocation this way for a sissy bar and luggage rack even though I did not have to. This way, if I ever go to bags, it's done. It also looks good.
I just did the front. It took about 2 hours taking my time, but I cut and soldered the wires instead of pulling the pins. Used Kuryakyn LEDs, looks great.
I agree with 28gauge to cut about 2" back from the crimp connector and splice. Be sure and use heat shrink over the solder joint. At the time I didn't have the foresight to do this,I cut at the connector and did not have enough to splice. So I went to the local electronics store (Fry's) and bought the proper crimp tool and used the connectors supplied in the kit. This works perfectly. I would recommend not using pliers to crimp the connector, not as reliable connection that way.
