Softails...really dissapointed!
I went out Sunday riding with my brother and a good friend. We were a Dyna, a softie and an SE-EG bagger. You know what - a good time was had by all and we (barely) argued about which kinda bike was better...
Just kiddin.
Man you guys are brutal! Here's my opinion; I love the vibes at Idle, and I am not tryning to justify anything. If I were I would say that I love the butt-ugly speedometer or theLOOK of the shorter wheel base. But I don't. I think that out of the box softails look better. I love the look of rigids and the softail has that cool "pizza slice" swing arm. I love the way my dyna handles though. And after the right mods... I like the dyna look better.
Part of the reason you guys on Dyna's think you've got soooooo much more room than the poor old Softails (LOL), is that you're running solo seats. Your *** is sitting part way off the seat in an effort to give you more leg room, and you don't realize it. The Softails have a more off-set angle between the seat area, and the back fender which lends very well to giving the rider a nice back rest.
I suppose this could be one of those instances, like the Toyota Corolla. I watched some program about morbidly obese people, and their car of choice is the little Toyota Corolla, because it has a lot of room between the steering wheel and the seat. Of course, they look like humpty dumpty driving the thing, but at least they're happy...
I'll take my counter-balanced motor, no visible shocks, larger looking, beautiful Softail over any Dyna, any day. And... that goes for the Wide Glide too, with it's ugly rear fender.
When they start saying they like that it shakes, you just gotta wonder what they won't say to justify their rides...
It's like people in California saying they like the little earthquakes...
Like my last dyna even better after the cams and high comp build, loped and shook even harder at idle. That's what they're supposed to do. What were you, one of those guys in high school that played with car stereos while the vo-tech boys were in the other end of the parking lot watching a 350 trying to climb out of the engine compartment of a SS cause it was cammed and shaking so hard?? Shake at idle is exactly what high compression cammed made in usa engines have done for years, and are supposed to do.
It's all smooth at speed.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I dig the looks of a NightTrain. Like the Springers too. Oh, and speaking of fenders, about the only thing I didnt like about the looks of a Duece was the rear fender! And noone has said anything about them here. Just a personal preference thing again. I would say my favorite looking ST right now would have to be the custom...but that is because it really resembles a WG!
In my mind you need at least three bikes....A Sporty, a Cruiser, adn a Touring bike. Obviously my choice for cruiser is the WG. I dont have a touring bike (thats why there are bags on my WG) but if I could afford it I would have to say the Street Glide. (Black of course)
Sporty's, the bike that dyna and ST guys like to dog on, are probably the most fun to ride.I like 03 and earlier. I think the 04 changes took the Sport out of Sportster, but again thats a personal preferance.
In Summary, 03 Sportsters, 06 WideGlides, and StreetGlides are the best Harleys. LOL... ...its all a preferance thing guys. Lets not be so thin skinned that someones preferance hurts our feelings. I am not going to lose sleep because someone said my WG had an ugly rear fender or my 1200 is a girls bike. And if you are the one ******* someones bike, then I feel bad for you, because somewhere along the way you missed out on what it is really all about. If I dont like someones bike, I keep my mouth shut. I aint riding it.
