Sweet bike Voyager1! For me to spend $18-$20K on a bike it's gotta be 110% perfect in my eyes in every which way, shape & form! It's gotta be the right model, color, & fit...it's gotta be a bike that I could feel completely confident riding across country & know that I'm not going to become uncomfortable & "tighten up" on. If I bought another bike today & inthis particular year it would be...
Sell your bike privately Voyager and then get the Heritage. They are right, your bike is only worth around 9k on trade and that's probably being generous.
Back on topic, after buying my SG without any actual research ( the bike just felt right when I sat on it) I started questioning my decision after a few months of being on this board and seeing all the different bikes and hearing all the stories. Felt like I may have short changed myself by going with the lower end bike becasue of cost factor and so on. I kept telling myself I should have bought a Softy although I really couldn't afford one at the time I bought my bike (that extra 7 grand for the Nitetrain made it out of my reach).
Well in the past 6 months I have been to countless dealers and sat on a myriad of bikes including Softails and Dynas alike. I'm still happy with the fit and feel of my Glide! The Nitetrain is a sweet *** ride but I sat on a few and I felt like I was way forward on it, to the point of being way too cramped for comfort even with the forwards. The Bob also felt weird to me and the WG was more money than I was willing to spend and I will be honest and say that skinny front tire does not appeal to me. Sat on my buddys Road King and it felt awful. Kind of weird, cause he is a tall guy like me but I just could not get used to that seating position.
If I'm gonna do another bike in the future, it's gonna probably be a Street Glide. Something about that bike is cool to me, not sure what it is but I like it. Just my take on things.........................
Yes, i agree.things would have to be perfect. heck,i am just looking. Doubt if i would find a dealer to deal . I may rent one some weekend. Odd's are i will keep my Dyna to be honest. sure is fun to look for sure . The heritage i looked at was 18,500 , security included .
Perhaps one cold snowey day this winter,i could deal. never know . Just dreaming most likley here, LOL .
AHHHH.. well sometimes i look and dream on. dream on.. dream on.. I dig my Dyna for sure. and got in over 100 awesome miles today in perfect 75 degree fall weather !!! almsot kept going all nite, but down to almost 40 tonite... I was like...no freaking way , LOL !!! My and a ride bud hit a few harley dealers while out crusin... fun to look,eh ?
I just need one more harley shirt too [sm=joke.gif]
One of those days where my bike just screamed !!! Like, twist the throttle a little more !! oh yea. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the exact same experience last week.
Dealer had some leftovers including Softail Custom and standard.
Sat on them - wow - I'm tall and I could not believe how high in the air my knees were.
Very uncomfortable.
Sat on a Softail before I bought my Wide Glide and had the same impression - too short from seat to footpegs. At 6'2", I'm no goliath, but need room to stretch out. My Wide Glide was the longest bike I sat on. Sometimes I feel like even it is too small, but nothing some fwd control extensions won't solve.
If I ever go to a larger bike it will probably be a RK, RKC, or StreetGlide. I would suggest scooting over to the Touring forum to see what those guts have to say. I think th Road Kings look like Dynas that have had way too much to eat at the buffet.
Really hope to buy an RK, after the Dyna is paid for. Just can't imagine being without it.
My problem with the various models is that the frames prove to be too short. I'm 6'3", 200 lbs, but long in the leg and arm. The WG is the only Harley I feel comfortable on. I love the Heritage Classic, and would love to have one, but I feel like my knees are tucked up into my armpits when I sit on one. I doubt I'd spend much time riding one if I had it. No, the WG is th bike for me.
