Right, cause all the rest of those Harley's are finely tuned, high tech, light weight handling machines...

Same here. Road tested my buddy's 03 Fat Boy. I sort of felt tlike I was sitting on a bar stool. Almost perched. He had forward controls, but my knees were still up pretty high, and I am only 5'10"

I like the "idea" of owning a softail custom - looks like it would at least sit like a dyna, but be ultra-smooth vibration-wise. Although I have been logging a lot of miles on my 07 Bob lately, and the vibes are starting to appeal to me.[:-]

Maybe I'm just a Dyna guy after all. Anyone sat on a street glide? Love to know if that is comfortable. Planning on it being my "later in life" bike.
They too have as cramped riding position if your tall (I'm 6'3")- rode my buds in Sturgis this year. But it was brand new and did not have highway pegs, etc...

Part of the reason you guys on Dyna's think you've got soooooo much more room than the poor old Softails (LOL), is that you're running solo seats. Your *** is sitting part way off the seat in an effort to give you more leg room, and you don't realize it. The Softails have a more off-set angle between the seat area, and the back fender which lends very well to giving the rider a nice back rest.

I suppose this could be one of those instances, like the Toyota Corolla. I watched some program about morbidly obese people, and their car of choice is the littleToyota Corolla, because it has a lot of room between the steering wheel and the seat. Of course, they look like humpty dumpty driving the thing, but at least they're happy...

I'll take my counter-balanced motor, no visible shocks, larger looking, beautiful Softail over any Dyna, any day. And... that goes for the Wide Glide too, with it's ugly rear fender.

You basically have the same rear fender!?! Both look like they came off a vintage KZ, but I like the look of both the WG and NT fenders...

[sm=confused06.gif] I was going to say the same thing???...looks damn-nearidentical to a Wide Glide rear fender to me!Always thoughtthat fenderwas Bad-Azzzz! Makes it look like the bike is doin' 100mph just standin' still!

Look guys, when I posted this thread it wasn't intended the bash Softies. I still think the Deluxe, FatBoy & Deuce are beautiful bikes. Me personally though, the more I sit on them the more I'm convinced that I'd NEVER buy a Softy. When it comes to a $16K-$19K investment, I'd never compromise looks over comfort. Even on my dream bike...the Road King Classic...the stock forward controls feel like mid's & you can't even move them out further? This would leave the top of my kneeslightly creeping over the top of the fuel tank...leaving me to seriously reconsider making this type of investment. The Wide Glide & the Super Glide Custom are today, the only 2 bikes that I can really stretch out on & feel 110% comfortable & TODAY, I'd take either 2 bikes over a Softail Custom, Fat Boy or Deluxe without question. Again, that just my own preference & opinion though...to each's own.

The night train fender and wide glide fender are alot diffrent,, look at the flip on the end.. There is also alot of diffrent kits to move the forwards 2-3-3 1/2" farther forward.. I'm 5' 11 and 32" inseam 195 lbs. and I can stretch out all I want. Also your feet are 3" wider apart on the soft tail. instead of tucked up close to the frame.. Few minor changes can make a big diffrence with just the same changes I made tomy street bob. My SoftTail is just as good a rideexcept the seat height is 1" lower and alot Smoother on the Soft tail.. The power differnace feeling on the bikes stock or tuned is just bull...I've been working on & rideingharleys for 35 years and they make diffrent models, Why rag on what ya dont own.. There all great bikes.. When I bought my Street Bob with the mid controls, it rode like $hit... but I knew all myproblems with it could be solved...Same thingwhen I bought my soft tail.. Love them both... I thought it was all about buying what ever bike (H.D ) and makeing it yours, Soft tail or dyna..I look at the bike atas a whole, not where the shocksmount...

That wasn't where you were going FXDC, but it's whrere others took the post. You said "I don't fit on those bikes". They started with "Those bikes are trash."

Nope. The fenders ARE very different. They're both bobtail fenders, but that's where the similarities end. The Softail fender is quite a bit wider to fit the wider 200mm tire. The Softail fender also has a very nice profile to it where it flips up at the tail, vs the WG. Harley also makes a smoked, low profile LED tail light for the Softails, whereas with the WG I believe you're stuck with the typical replacement options.

Go look at a WG fender now, and you'll see what I mean.

...and, as far as backpedaling now and trying to say you didn't mean to put down Softails, I call bull. The title of your thread says it all.

Well misterB..... You must have better eyes than I do.
I just went to take a close look at the rear fender on my 96WG, and other than the taillight, it looks exactly like yours[sm=insomnia.gif]!

Cheers... Ben.

If you like the older Wide Glides you will love the newer ones. They have a little more ground clearance and are streched out more. It would be hard for me to part with my 07 Wide Glide.
If I got a second bike. I would want a 07 Electra Glide Classic.
I'd take the bags off it and the floor boards and the faring. I'd put forward controls on it and change the handle bars and probaly the seat.
I had a 64 Pan head Duo Glide which was a Electra Glide but instead of a electric start it was a Kick start that was stripped down. I would like a 07 EGC stripped down to ride on longer rides. You can't git a better ride than a EG on long runs and if you put extra weight on them air the shocks up. Its about as close to the WG as you can git.
It was one of the best bikes I've ever owned till I got my 07 Fxwg.

This thread is goofy. Like said before. I like all bikes. Test drove a Heritage over the weekend. One awesome bike, fast and smooth . Lots of room, etc . This entire thread should be freaking nuked . Like Trotter said, why rag on what you do not own.
