Scratched Tree Surfaces
I found the same problem on mine and applying Mother's Metal Polish with a micr-fibre cloth just made it worse. Bought one of Mother's Power Ball applicators, put it on the end of cordless drill and tried again. Incredible results - definitely the way to go and very quick. Ended up pulling some of the cad-plated fasteners and polishing them - they almost look like chrome now.
I use HD metal polish, that has satisfactory results for me, done right thefinishisdazzling. Yer sure there are fine lines heck there are chunks missing from mishaps and rocks flying up, but she ain't gonna stay new forever. Let her gain some character.
I think you need to make sure which parts of your front end are chrome and which are aluminum. Some parts ARE chrome plated and yes some are aluminum. I sanded/polished the ALUMINUM forks on my Bob to a mirror polish but I made sure to not polish any of the chromesince I didn't want it ruined. Your dealer told you right about not polishing actual chrome plated parts.
Do a search in the Dyna forum for TOMMAY's thread on polishing and refinishing different areas. You should be able to find it under his name and anything regarding front forks.
