Gear Head Question

I've read it here that some of the gears are straight cut andothers are helical. I understand that helical gears have a greater surface area and provide a smoother contact and separation.

My question is what are the advantages and is helical gears are better, why not use them for all six gears?

quiter but not as strong. Straight cut make more noise but are much stronger thats why you find them in race and heavy duty applications

I have ran Helical cut gears in my race transmissions before and never had any issues. Of course some of them were reverse cut to cancel any side thrust issues.
