went on a 200 mile ride today and the whole time i kept hearing that clunk. it's been doing it the whole 5000 miles i've put on the bike. i recently asked this awesome forum what the problem could be. the standard answer was the gas tank. well i went out the other day and couldn't figure it out. but today i couldn't take it anymore so i smacked the tank from underneath and sure enough it moved. i tightened it down in about 10 seconds. the last 50 miles of my trip were worry free. THANKS GUYS!!!!!
Kudos to the forum from me as well. I was 400 miles from home and this horrible clunk became worse and worse as I rode. In the back of my mind, I remembered folks on this forum finding that their kickstand was hitting the frame, making a clunk. Pulled over, looked down, and sure enough, the rubber stopper was misplaced and the kickstand was smacking the frame. Got things straightened out, and moved on. Unfortunately, clank was still there. Freaked me out, 'cause is sounded like my triple tree was going to implode. Later that evening - it hit me. I remembered all the posts about the tank mounts. Went out, grabbed the tank and pulled up and down - CLANK, CLANK, CLANK. Bullseye! This forum rocks. Group hug, everyone! ummmm maybe not....

We have all learned from each other on this forum.
Thing about the tank clunk is the bolts can seem very tight, and the tanl doesn't seem loose, but once you crank on those 2 tank bolts until they squeak............... no more problem.
BTW, notice your Motherwell rack, very nice............................ If it ever sounds like your engine is ready to blow up (really), check the rear nut on the rack and make sure it is tight. I have a thumb screw holding mine down, on rare ocassions it will loosen and the vibration apparently fllows the frame.
The rattle will vary with engine RPMs and sound like the whole top end on the motor is coming through the jugs.First time gave me quite a scare.
