Old style throttle
Any of you guys remember the old style throttle grip that would stay where you set it, it didn't have a return spring. I was wondering if I could find one for my Dyna like that? Any ideas?
Just take the return spring off at the carb, kind of sucks though when a car pulls out in front of you and the engine dies from stalling out being to rich with the sudden decel, unless your running a CV carb, ask me how I know!
No, they still have that, Hardway. When it is tightened down it stops/restricts the travel of the throttle grip. What I'm talking about is having the throttle grip move freely but stay where you put it. I don't have a problem with twisting it closed and never had a problem when I had that kind of throttle on my old Sportsters. I liked it a lot more than having something that made the throttle hard to turn. Would taking the return spring off do the same thing? Actually, I haven'tlooked to see if there is a return spring on the Throttle assembly.
The only spring to be found is on the throttle body. Nothing in the control housing.

Thanks Ariborne, I might try taking that spring off and see if it works the way the old throttles did. I'm surprised that no one seems to remember throttles like that. I think they may have been called suicide throttles but I'm not sure.
b5mac; I believe one pulls open and the other pulls closed on throttles since, oh, the later part of the last century. My Brit bikes had a single cable with a return spring in the slide; I thought the old HD style was a solid wire type that could push or pull; the aftermarket might have something for you ie: S&S or one of the few thousand choppers parts builders. Would be comfortable if you were familier with it (like right foot shift...) I remember looking for something like that when I built my '01 Sporty up. I'll be watching to see what you end up doing...
