Can anyone confirm the HD service manual states you do not need to take bike to dealer for service ?? I'm not as confident in European warranty law unless its written in the HD book that it is OK then I would be happy to challenge them if I had any issues.
I'm more than capable of performing service but am nervous of losing my warranty ... 10k service due soon.
Thanks ... Mat
Mat,
As far as I'm aware the manual is written for the US anyway and doesn't state that.
It will be down to the law in each individual country or in our case the EU, which as you say, is a bit grey. I think you will be on iffy territory by doing it yourself, as if I understand right, the service book has to be stamped by who ever serviced it, i.e an independent commercial service organisation and therebyinferring the manufacturers service schedule has been adhered to. Even then I know of manufactuers (cars not m/c) that have successfully wriggled out of that and avoided a warrenty claim....!
I'm going HD service until the warrenty expires at least.
Yeah ... that's where I was with service but saw a comment in another thread that it stated it in the manual ... as long as i can buy the manual here I'd do the service myself. Guess I'm going to have to pay for another year.
I don't think it being in the manual would make much difference, as that would be written specific to US law. As I understand it, the warrenty aggrement hereis with HD-UK, NOT direct with the MoCo in a legal sense, or something like that, which makes a big difference.
You would be OK warrenty wise if you had the service done at a independent HD specialist and they stamped the manual etc. not as cheap as doing yourself, but probably cheaper than at a HD dealer..?
