I would like to know your thoughts on a 10k service check @ the STEALER vs Indy.
My reason for this ? is: My brother and I both got new sleds @ the same time, we both took them to different Stealers in our area for the 5k...$450- 550 with so many upsells and BS... I have a great Indy that will do the same identical service for about $325-350.
I have checked with my warranty provider and they told me HD can't force you to have the service done by them, but you need to have the same things done that HD requires, and as long as you have itemized proof and the list of work done that you are in compliance with the warranty. Any thoughts and your input would be helpful.
You will hear this from many of us......get a service manual and do all the service yourself. You'll know it's done right and you'll save lots of cash for other upgrades.
However, if you have no desire to work on your own bike and are willing to shell out hundreds for servicing, yes, you can use the indy and save some money.
Just get an itemized receipt of work done. HD cannot deny warranty items because you had service done at an indy, or did the work yourself.
I bought my first Harley in 2012; after my first service quote I bought the service manual and had a friend help me learn how to do the service. Piece of cake if you've worked on any other vehicles. I don't see how my $20K BMW motorcycle's service is HALF of the air-cooled Harley. Another interesting note; ask the service tech to itemize what they do on the 10K service, and check your owner's manual. The 10K service and "break-in" service are nearly identical on most models (if not identical), but the break-in service is usually cheaper...?!
Since 20009 and the dealer has never touched it except for warranty work. The Indy shop is OK providing they do everything…..Example like checking the linkage housing bolt bracket on the tranny….that its tight etc. but then again I have seem the dealer techs take short cuts….so roll the dice!
The services are pretty simple and I do my own but I have full access to a shop which makes it nice.
