As some of you have been reading, I will be ordering a new set of pipes fairly soon, wether it be slip ons, or a complete exhaust system. Now, what my question is, are there any other modifications that need to be done in? For instance, any sort of fuel management system or tuning or anything of the sort? I see some talk about a race tuner or stage 1, or SE a/c.. I'm completely confused!
Depending on your fuel delivery system (carb or injected) changes will be needed.
You will want to put a breather kit on, this lets more are in.
If you are carbeurated you will need to rejet the carb.
If you are injected you will need to adress the fuel managment system (remap).
Changing the amount of air let in and the ease of exhaust flowwing out makes the carb or map changes necesary.
I ride an 06' Streetbob, so I believe itsfuel injected. Now, whats it going to take to do this remapping? Am I going to have to take this to the bike shop to get this done? Or would I be able to do this myself..
Any breather kits that you would reccomend for my Streetbob??
A simple K&N filter should suffice. You can go fancy and expensive with a hypercharger, but aren't going to get much more air in than with the K&N. You're going to pay for looks.
Bigger A/C means more air into the motor which menas your motor need more fuel. You bike is F/I so you need to have a remap done to your ecm by a shop or buy an aftermarket tuner such as a Thundermax or Dynojet and so on and do it yourself.
Do some searches on tuners and you will come up with a ton of threads devoted to this.
It will cost you roughtly about 6 to $700 for the SE Air kit and the SERT. Plus Dyno and labor...You may be able to get the SERT and/or air kit cheaper on Ebay...Maybe!!
I'd recommend some other basic and unglamorous stuff while you're at it like new exhaust gaskets, a new set of retaining rings and 4 new exhaust stud nuts because these little things get rusty and all of the shiny things in the world won't help much if the pipes leak or can't be put on because you don't have the nuts to tighten the new pipes down with. Make sure the mounting studs aren't too rusty or crossthreaded when you get the old pipes off.
