Default popping and sputtering while idling

Anyone had this problem? When its cold-my '04 Wide glide sputters pops revs and sometimes dies while idling. After I take off it seems to run fine--no codes showing up--my local dealer has had the bike for a month now and is scratching his head. He called the MOCO and they're scratching too! Any ideas?

Is the bike warm? If so, it sounds like it's idling too low. Just a guess.

Had a car once that liked to rev on it's own when idling. Turned out to be an air leak in the intake system. Take a spray bottle full of water and while it's idling spray all the areas were there is a gasket. If there is a leak the engine will react when you spray the areawith the leak.

My dyna was doing that also. Trailered it to the dealership and they changed the intake gaskets, wasn't them. It ended up that it was a fuel line chaffed in the tank. Of course you can't just buy the line, you have it get the whole fuel pump assembly.

Just tell your mechanic to look at the fuel line in the tank.

I hope this helps.

is the bike carbed or efi? if it's efi does this happen on a full tank? if not maybe 01harleygal is on to something. as the fuel level drops down it's sucking air or it's not delivering full fuel pressure. if it's a carbed bike are you remembering to push in the enrichener ****? just some thoughts.

Maddoggreene, please get back to us with what the problem was, so the rest of us would know what to do if it happened to us.

I hope your mechanic found the problem with your bike.

hi
I have the same problem. when it is cold bike dies then accelaretes suddenly. it was so strange. I went to hd tech and he test drove it. he said fuel pump went out. they just replaced one recently on a streeb bob. so they cured the disease. now I left my bike in my garage for 15 days waiting new fuel pump. it is not recommended to ride the bike in this way I told.

hope this helps

Make sure when you pump your gas, it is amber in color. Where I live the gas stations had a common supplier. ( Different Brands Though ) Well ! I don't know why but, the premium storage tanks ended up with E85 in them. ( None of the stations have E85 Pumps ) E85 will really make a EFI Bike run weird. Missing on light loads, and acting like the bike was running out of gas.
