I've got a little WindVest windshield and seldom ever take it off. Just makes for a more comfortable ride, knocks off most of the wind and some of the rain and I even like the looks of it.
Back in the Seventies, I used to hear as a kind of basic rule of thumb that any speed over seventy would affect handlebar windshields negatively. Frankly, I'd be a little leery of blasting along at 80+ with a handlebar windshield or faring: I know guys are doing it, but in the long run, a frame-mounted faring is better for sustained high speed running.
Hey Mom, is that you?
Littleleroy, I never like attacks, even soft ones like this. We should address the concept, not make fun of the person. That said, you have to expect some push back on the part of a forum dedicated to Dynas which will never have frame-mounted farings. All our windshields are in the front end and will transfer movement to the handlebars.
Ithink I amsafer with my windshield on at high speeds than to have the full force of the wind on my upper body. And not only wind. Sand, rocks, bugs and whatever.
Anyway, if safety were my first concern, I wouldn't ride at 80 mph.
For some strange reason, they look okay and even good on some dyna's depending on how they are equipped but I hate the way it looks on mine.
Maybe it has something to do with the 8" bars... I don't have one, yet, but can't imagine what it'll look like with 'our' bars...
I'd be offended if anyone else had said that. LOL
Actually, didn't like a windshield on mine with the stock bars. It's the overall look of my bike with a windshield that I just don't like.
As far as speed goes, guys, I realize there are times when you need to go faster and/or keep up with traffic. I can't relate because I don't commute to work. It's personal preference but I just do not and would not enjoy riding at those 70 and 80 mph speeds for extended periods if I were, in fact, riding for the enjoyment to begin with like I usually do. It's rare that I'm riding my bike just to get somewhere. Getting where I'm going is the end of the fun for me. It's not that I haven't or won't do 70 or 80 at times but I don't lock it in there and stay there just because I want to. I will agree, however, that if that is your typical style and speed, a windshield is almost a must - dyna, sportster, or whatever...
I've never owned one...had a Sporty and now a Bob...would look ridiculous on either bike in my opinion.Actually, the wind only bothers me occasionally...not enough to ruin the looks.
Nothing convinces me more that a windshield is a good thing then to watch those without one on the freeway fightingthe wind trying to pull their helmets off. Looks like their neck muscles are about to "pop". If all you do is ride around town, no problem without one. But when youâre up on I-5 in the early morning dodging traffic, bugs, rocks, sand, etc., nothing like a windshield in front of you to catch some of that stuff. I guess I could wear a full helmet but then again I could drivea car to work too. Naw, I'll just put up with the windshield and the thought of how "ugly" it makes my bike look.

Get the windshield already...it's the best thing you can do...riding below 55mph all the time takes the fun out of that
