The bikes do look much better without a windshield but if you ever go on long highway trips in my opinion they are needed.Thispast May,whenI still had the Sporty, I did a 24 hour 1000 mile ride and then in June me and some coworkers took a 4 day 1700+ mile trip andI couldn't imagine doing it without a windshield. It also helps in the cold weather when I ride to work. Saying all that I still don't have one for the new bike yet but by next Spring I should have one and the Memphis Shades Rio Grande is the one.
That being said: when I am on my own, NO windshield
When I am with the wife: she has learned and demands the windshield
When I am on the HWY on a prolonged trip: I would not be without a windshield.
Wind at 70 beating against chest or dispersed by Shield..... no brainer.
I agree about the looks - not so good but it definitely makes the longer trips easier, relieving the push on the chest. HOWEVER, the buffeting can be a real pain. My shield is quite small and unobtrusive but the trade-off is the buffeting (Memphis Shades Shooter). From reading some of the threads the larger shields can be a bit more efficient - but then you get back to appearance. Get a removable shield and just use it for the longer trips and cooler weather IMO.

Don't have a wife, so had to learn on my own............. what he said. Windsheild makes extended riding a real pleasure.
I enjoy the wind but not in extreme cold. I don't want to suffer when I ride, so I use a quick release sport windscreen. I also run it when I do my weekly Houston to Dallas round trip, bu ttake it off when I get into town.
