Once I solved the buffeting problem,nothing beats thewindshield, or me anymore for that matter.
I got the Quick Disconnect thinking it would be nice to be able to ride with or without the windshield while also not using tools and a bunch of time to change it.
But seems like everytime I take it off for a ride, I'm sorry I did while riding and getting beat up.
While some may say they like the wind in their face, great, enjoy it! I've been riding a street bike since 1979, got my first half windshield in 2001 on my Triumph. Before I even bought this bike, I knew it was getting a windshield of some type. And as mentioned, once the buffeting problem was solved, I enjoy the nice light breeze in my face, I can hear everything without the wind blasting my ears, when riding with a passenger we can talk without yelling and saying "what?" all the time,any debis, insect, sand, rocks, tire rubber, and all that good stuff are thrown over the top of me instead of into my face.
Yeah, call me a wimp or whatever, but I'm into enjoying life and relaxing.
I look at it this way, if given the choice, would you say you'd rather ride and not get hit in the face with road debris, bugs etc..., or would you say " I like getting hit with all that stuff while riding 50 - 80 MPH!"
I have a detachable one that came with the bike. Most of my riding is around town, so I took it off. If I do any longer trips, I'll put it back on for the day. Also, now that it's cooling off, I might decided to use it for the winter. Tucson doesn't have much of a winter, but it does get into the 30s and 40s at night...
I bought a Memphis slim 15" clear because I wanted the benefit without it being overpowering. I have not taken it off yet. It definetly helps but doesn't cure the wind issue at above 65 mph. At least I don't have the 50 lb. Gorrilla on my chest any more. It works for me.

That's a good looking windshield on your scoot. With the black tint at the bottom, it blends in nice with the bike and really doesn't stand out.
Ihave one of the National Cycle wind deflectors on my FXDC; I took it off my Sporty and thought what the heck. It works like a charm. It doesn't stand out and is adjustable so that I can manage the windso that it flows better over me. Like ktm_Scott said, when it gets cold (cold in South Texas is relative) it makes a huge difference and on day-to-day riding it helps keep the road crap off me.
I own one - the std HD QD clear. It's one of the 2 or 3 single most expensive add-ons I bought for my bike and it's one of the first add-ons I purchased. With that said, I don't use it much. For some strange reason, they look okay and even good on some dyna's depending on how they are equipped but I hate the way it looks on mine. However, forget looks when you are riding long and fast. When I'm going on a long ride with mostly highway speeds, I clamp on the windshield, my tallboy seat, and my sissy bar and roll bag. Adding those 3 things almost makes it look like I havea second bike that resembles the first one. But the windshield definitely takes the pressure off my upper body and allows me to relax more and ride longer without getting tired. It also may someday catch that 60 mph rock that got thrown from the rear tire of a truck. Around town, though, or short weekend rides, it's setup the way it is in my sig pic. I'm soon going to change the stock 2 up seat to a stock bob seat as well.
It took me over 50 years before I got one. Now I wish I had gotten one long before. I like the Quick Disconnects. I have the Compact, low profile on my Bob. They pop right off for cruising around town or short hauls and go back on in seconds for longer rides. Whatever little buffeting I've encountered (very wind dependent) doesn't begin to compare to the beating the body takes without the shield.
got the harly quick release detachable on my fxdc.took it off a few times but most of the time its on. the wind gets into my eyes and causes them to water so i need the shield . took out the stosk mounting screws, drilled out the holes and replaced them with new chrome bolts with pike nuts. look pretty cool
Dog, do you not wear foamie type shades or goggles? I had the tearing problem when I first tried to ride with regular Oakley sunglasses. Then I found a pair of shades with the foam around the inside and no longer have the problem - ever - with or without a windshield. You have to spend a little time finding a pair that fit properly (no big gaps) but you don't have to spend a lot of money. I found a guy at a bike event (Ghostriders). Found the perfect fit and bought 2 pair with identical frames - one sunglasses and one clear lenses (I hate dealing with the interchangeable lenses). I think I paid about 35 bucks for both pair but they come with a lifetime replacement warranty for any damage other than loss. However, I've seen vendors at rallies selling similar glasses for 12 bucks or as little as 10 bucks if you buy multiples.
Iâm more of a comfort first kind of guy the older I get.

HA Ha HA Ha, Ask a question like that and you will get just about 50 / 50 answer. Some will say yes, some will say no and a few say yes but do not have one, or no but never tried it. The biggest thing you will hear is that it does not look good, or it does not belong on a street bob. Here is what I will tell you. Are you going to be riding long distances or just bar hoppin? If you are looking to do some wide open riding for long miles then I will suggest that you get a shield. Just about everone should agree with this, as long as they have ridin long rides with one and without one. (Again that was most).
Do whatever you want. If you want one then get one. Who cares what others say, it is your ride not theres. There will be those that do and those that dont, who cares? Good luck with your choice.
