Windshield my Dyna or no windshield?
I got one idea that might help some of you. Slow the @#$%#$ down and enjoy the ride. Damn you guys are haulin' A$$ out there at 70 and 80+ mph. If I gotta get there that quick, I use my cage.

I enjoy the ride at 100 mph as well as at 65 mph. If I want to stay under 110 mph all day, I take the Ford.

When on a road, any road, speed limit should be minimum speed, and 90 - 95 % of the time it is, (there was another thread yesterday or so about people on your azz, what to do?)
If you're going under speed limit, especially on a two lane highway, expect people on your azz, don't ask why?.
In reality, you at least want to keep up with traffic, usually 55 - 65 mph, that speed alone is enough for me to want the windshield, I have mine set up for no buffeting up to 85 mph (just in case of an emergency).

PS. check the signature pic my bike would look stupid as hell with a windshield now but a few months ago http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u..._photo/ed2.jpg maybe not so much
Travilinman, you mention twice in your post that you solved the buffeting. How did you do that? I'm still getting beat up with buffeting with my shield.
Mike
I now use two set-ups, one for up to about65 mph without buffeting, the second for up to 85 mph.
At about 90 mph, the buffeting starts again, and at about 100 mph, back to the buffetingof about 65 -70 mph without any modifications to the windshield. I don't ride this fast normally, but you know I had to find out my limits with my creation, wouldn't you?.
Now I have a quiet, no more buffeting, head bobbing back and forth, eye tearing or tooth rattling ride.
I do ride with a half helmet, and with passenger aboard, we actually talk, not yell at each other while riding down the highway.
Nice breeze, no deafening wind noise.
I have the the Harley QD compact windshield (I think standard height)
Set up one: I bought a new headlight, 5-3/4 inch, but longer, so it sticks out past the winshield about an inch.(ebay, I think it was $45)
I mount the windshield just below the lower tree (instead of on top of the lower tree)
In doing this, I needed to cut the windshield about 2" up so the headlight could stick through. Cut it snug, about an 1/8inch all around.
Added a small 8" Harley tool bag, $22 from Harley, under the headlight on the forks.
Made a 2" tank lift, not actually sure if this helped, but it was done, so it may or may not have helped.
I figured I should also mention I do not like looking through a windshield, I now look over it and can see the ground over it at about 20 ft..
Saying all this, I could have just cut the shield on the top, and added lowers, but I was being stubborn and wanted one piece I could put on and take off without a hassle. (Honestly didn't like the looks of the lowers either, but here I am creating a monster). And go figure, now I don't want to take it off again anyway.
Set up two: Same set up as above, but I bought a Laminar Lip ( www.laminarlip.com ) off thelocal Craigslist for about half price, and it is even better at all speeds. I could not believe the job it does. But, in my opinion,it will not, and can not do the job alone as advertised on the website. But in doing the steps above to keep the air from coming under, this Lip thing helps direct the air over your head.
Like I said before, I might not have the best looking bike, but it rides like a dream.
When I first picked up my bike, by wife drove me. She doesn't believe in speed limits, so it was a challenge to catch up to her on the way home. but I had to soI could give the damn windshield. Detachable.
I use it for long rides or in cold weather, but I just love the experience of riding without one. You can see better, you can feel the speed. It's what riding is all about. I understand windshields, but I use them only when I have to.
