Depends on how bigyou are I guess. At 6'4", forwards are not just for show or to recline or to be a Softail ridin' wannabe, they are simply a must. Feel like I am riding my son's Honda 70 with mid controls. My legs aren't exactly stretched out with the standard length forwards either. Everyone has different comfort zones so you don't necessarily have to be tall to appreciate forward controls. The Wide Glide has them standard and they are now available from the factory on the Fat Bob so they are not just reserved for Softails. IMO they should be optional on all of them. And, to some extent, I guess they are even if you have to spend a few hundred more and then put them on yourself.
Exactly, forwards are an "acquired taste" but with some practice, maneuvering is no more difficult than with mids.
I never said anything about ease. I've had forwards on other bikes for years. Took about 30 seconds to get used to them. But they are what they are. There is a reason race bikes, even the Harley track dragbikes, not just rice rockets, have the pegs below the rider, or even further back. Physics. You simply have the potential for better control, weight shifting, e&. There's not arguement, just phyiscs. That does not mean you can't grind your forwards, I also understand that most Harley riders are not bike leaners so to speak... more laid back cuisers. That's fine. Great. Whatever, but the bottom line is, it's not about learning or skill. Just like apes, (which I love the looks of, one more thing my softie will have) you can get good at them, but the phyiscs are such that you will never have the control you could have.
I'm 5' 7" and I love the mids and use the highway pegs on long trips. I like being able to stand up on the mids while going over the obstacle course known as the Pennsylvania roadway system.
I think you'll love the forward controls. I put the the mid pegs back on for an alternate position on a long haul and added heels rest to the forwards and a larger brake pad.Makes for great comfort on road trip running five to seven hundred miles a day and no problems with control at any speed.
Exactly....... Best of both worlds .........Just wish the Dyna forwards weren't so tight (Close) to the frame....

Has anyone used or seen a bike with the Kuryakyn highway peg mounts for forward controls? I have been looking at those as aalternate to engine bars because I don't think the lindby bars work with forward controls.
