I called the dealer today to inquire about the stage 1 download and they told me 180 ish including labor. Now I know the only labor involved is the printing of paperwork and reaching out to collect my money. I guess it's comical to me because I can buy a TFI, DFO, or a PC3 for about 40 bucks more than the download would run me.
I can't complain too much though... Still out there riding. with no winter blues.
You're lucky. Two dealers here want, for one, 180 + 1/2 hr. labor and, for the other, 150 + 1 hr. labor for the stage 1 download. Both come out to $232 with tax.
You can get a V&H fuel pak for about the same. I don't think you will get a PCIII for that price.
My advice would be to save your money and get a Power Commander and have the Bike Dyno Tuned. I know its alot of money, Power Commander and a Dyno Tune could cost $500-$600. Its the price we have to pay to own a Harley with fuel-injection. Its not like the old days when we could just replace the jets in the carb. I paid 14k for my bike, plus another 3k in upgrades. I want it to run good, and keep running good for a long time. You will reduce the miles you get out of your motor if its not tuned properly. It stinks that HD builds bike that are not adjustable. I think my next bike will be a custom build with a S&S motor and a Carb. Also, make sure that you find a good Dyno tech. Just because a dealer hasDyno doesnt mean they know how to use it. This is just my opinion, from experience. Good luck with whatever route you decide to take.
