Well, I finally made the transition from metric to Harley.I bought a1997 Dyna Superglide and can't WAIT to do some customizing. Where to start? I'm thinking drag pipes and carb re-jet. I'm not one of these guys that has tons of $$ to drop into my project so I'm open to any advice on where to start. (other than what I just posted) Anyone raise the gas tank? 21" front wheel? (does this need a new fender?) Are there any good online links for competetive prices on chrome? Anyway, I appreciated the warm welcome on the new member area and I'm looking forward to my new life as a Harley owner!
have fun with it and good luck. take your time a little and decide just what you want it to be. everone has different ideas. thats what makes your bike special
Thanks. I have a question about forward controls for this bike. It currently hase MID controls with floor boards and I really don't like the feel. Will I have to get an entirely new set up to make it forward controls, or will I just need extended linkage and move the existing controls forward?
Congrats on the new bike man! For the forwards you will need a kit. I have Kuryaken and like them but HD and some others are good too. Ebay, J&P Cycles, and Jireh Cycles are all good places for less important parts, i.e. cosmetic. But when it comes to tires, brakes, engine, I stick to HD or an indy shop that backs up their stuff.
Lots of people have raised their tanks here and I'm about to order a 2" kit. If you use the search function on forum you will find tons of stuff related to what you want to look at.
Welcome! Learn to use the search function it can be tricky sometimes anyway for me. There is enough info floating around here to read that your eyes will bleed and your head pound. Just kidding!!!! But there are alot of people with great info here. Have fun with it

There is a school of thought that mid foot controls allow for better control and handling. If you are on a budget consider putting on foot pegs and highway pegs so you have a bunch of foot positioning options compared to the floor boards.Another comment is "look at me" drag pipes have no back pressure and hurt performance and make many enemies amongst the people for excessive noise. Consider other options. Welcome to the Dyna family.
congrats on the new bike and welcome to the forum. it's like it has been said start doing your reserch and take your time. there is alot out there.and if you aiern't careful you will be changeing you mind alot.enjoy and ride safe.
