Default Shifter Linkage

Is it worth it to replace the transmission shifter linkage with Harley's polished one with the two Heim joints? (I have mid controls.)

I'd say no, but I'm more of a "go" than "show" type. The Heim joints themselves don't really help any. I don't think the Heim's (multi angle) ends work any better than the 'ball and socket' type. You may have a few threads to adjust your shifter up or down a bit, but that's all.JMO. I have forwards and even then my stock linkage worked just fine.

I agree on the go vs show. I have adjusted my shifter just fine by removing it and raising it up a couple splines on the shaft. I have only added a couple pieces of chrome to my bike. Hiway pegs that turn out to be too much of a reach for my short stubby legs and a chrome battery cover moulding that I thought went better with what chrome I do have than the satin band did that came on the bike.

I did because I like the mids and I think a "zinc" plated bar looked like crap, so I bought the nicer linkage instead of forwards. Necessary? NO but I did anyway.

Thanks - I agree that the zinc plated linkage looks like crap, next to a chrome plated primary cover. Aircraft use heim joints not ball and sockets - so maybe i will splurge on the polished linkage; i don't know.

I see no reason to pay 150 dollars for a shift rod maybe if my stock one ever breaks.............

I have fwd controls so maybe the mids are different but I changed from the stock to linkage with heim ends and could tell an immediate ,positive difference. Nice clean, crisp shift.Mine had about twenty five thousand miles on them, though, so they could have been worn.

Good Luck

Tom
